Handling Dissapointment

in #motivation8 years ago

Disappointment is a sensitive & delicate emotion that can cause mental stress & depression. Even when you are having a great life, you may not always get what you want. Everyone is susceptible to dissapointment at one point or the other because people behave differently. 10-Bible-Verses-To-Help-Deal-With-Disappointment.jpg

Handling dissapointment is tricky & if not handled effectively can affect your emotional & physical well being. Here are some steps I’ve identified in my own process for truly overcoming dissapointment:

  • Let it out
To get past dissapointment, sharing and being heard is important. However, try to stay away from people who make a big deal out of every situation that goes wrong. They might come compound your problem and even make it harder for you to get past your dissapointments.

  • Do a reality assessment - is it that bad?
Humans tend to be dramatic. At the point of dissapointment, many people have that first feeling that the worst and the most horrible thing just happened but later come to discover that this emotion was overrated. Do a reality check of the situation and you'll definitely find a round it.

  • Get connected to your ambition & not results
Most times we get this feeling of disappointment because we've attached ourselves to a particular result. So when this objectives are not achieved, we tend to get depressed and dissapointed. Let yourself be rooted to your desire & ambition & not the goals. This way, when you don't achieve them, you can easily pick yourself up and start again.

  • Distract yourself
Do what makes you relax. Read a book, watch TV, listen to music, get a drink, etc. All of these things will help you to calm down and clear your mind. Likewise this will allow you to begin thinking about things differently, which can potentially trigger new insights and perspectives that will help you in moving forward.

  • Learn from your experience
Their are lessons to learn from every dissapointment. Some disappointments may be painful, others less so but still costly. Analyze your dissapointment, trust & faith in people, things you need to do differently. Only a foolish person falls into the same situation twice. Life's about continuously learning. Life is teacher.

Dealing with disappointments can be a really big deal for most people, over time i have to understand that whatever disappointment that comes your way can not totally distroy you, it is left for you to be positive about the situation and get your back off the ground.
Thank you for this

Yes. This emotional imbalance causes depression & stress if not handled properly. That's why we need to focus more on our desire and not the results to avoid the menace of dissapointments.
Thanks for the comment.

As I got older I've learned to understand the difference between being mad or angry and disappointed in someone. I have found myself to be disappointed with someone but not mad or angry with them.
