SPEAK UP OR GIVE UP
Here is @imbigdee reporting on Steemit for this week with another article I title: Speak Up or Give up. The motivation to write this come from a story I read online about a girl that committed suicide because she felt her family don’t love. She felt the best way out of her problem was to take her own life. Her boyfriend was in so much pain. According to him, she felt happy all the time they were together and never noticed anything was wrong.
The question raised was: Why do depressed people appear happy around people close to them? Let me try to answer in my honest opinion. They do to hide what they feel inside. Others feel no one can help them. There is a strong spirit in depression that makes the victim to feel they can’t get happiness anywhere. The truth is, the spirit wants you dead. Your silence means the spirit have won you. You can win back this war by finding someone to talk to. You didn’t create life for yourself so you can’t take it because life is unfair.
If you think life is easy or a bed of roses, you are wrong. We are created differently from different backgrounds (endurance, thought and belief) so we can align to make a better version of ourselves. Speak up about your depression or give up to it. There are thousands of people to talk to. The government and NGOs around are working endlessly to create awareness against depression and suicide. When that voice come to you to take your life, remember the time the voice came to do something bad and you didn’t do. If you can overcome before, you can overcome again but you need someone that can help you this time to get over this menace.
Depression is real and eating up the hearts of the young ones around us. If you are depressed and reading this, go to a medical center or seek counselling before it is too late for you. We think we are helping ourselves by committing suicide, this is not true. We are creating pain for others we leave behind. I can’t imagine how parents will feel when they read their child’s suicide note.
Finally, if you are reading this and you are troubled in your mind. Open your mouth and speak up about your problems. For every problem, there is a solution and suicide should never be an option. Speak up so you won’t have to give up. There is someone out there that loves you and with time, you will meet the person and forget your sorrow. Read other people’s testimonies on how they survived depression and learn a thing or two. This is my part in creating awareness about depression, what have you done to your society to fight against this menace?
