Monomad Entry for December 12th, 2018 — "Tattoo Shop"
This is our entry for today for the black-and-white photography #monomad challenge, originally started by @brumest:
I liked the idea of doing an "artistic" series of photos, so I thought we'd try this as a daily "personal" challenge on behalf of the Red Dragonfly Gallery for a while... this is Day 2:
Today's entry is of the tattoo shop around the corner from the Red Dragonfly Gallery, taken last year in October. Sadly, the tattoo shop isn't there anymore, a victim of the general economic conditions in our area.
The new landlord who recently purchased the building (an out-of-state "investor") demanded higher rent when the shop's lease came up for renewal... so that was all it took for Gary (the shop owner) to simply quit and shut it down. The space has now been vacant for about 10 months.
This shot was taken in the late afternoon when it was already getting "dusky," but the neon sign stood in stark contrast and made for an interesting shot... both in color, and now in black-and-white.

It is pretty much being "another slow day in paradise" today. Even though we have increased our selection of "gifty" items over the years, we are by no figment of the imagination experiencing any kind of "holiday rush."
That's actually of greater concern to our neighboring candle and incense store, for whom it is definitely "high season," and yet she says her sales are still running at "about half" of what early December days have typically been. Which leads us to believe that everyone is either leaving their shopping very late... OR Christmas has simply been canceled, and we didn't get the memo!
In the meantime, I have been busying myself with processing some incoming transactions from the ongoing auction sales of handmade glass marbles we've been selling. No great shakes, but at the moment it's keeping the lights turned on.
