Yes. You Deserve To Be Paid For Your ContentsteemCreated with Sketch.

in #money7 years ago

It is not uncommon to feel that you should not get paid for your content, whether it is your photography, your vlog, your written stories or even a selfie. You have been posting your stuff for free for years and it has become the norm. But just because it is the way you have been doing it, that does not mean it is the way you should be doing it. And now, instead of everyone being happy that sites are starting to reward the content creators, arguably the most important part of a network, there are people who are distrustful. It is a way of thinking that is slowly changing and one that I feel we all need to rid of. Here are reasons why you should be paid for your content, regardless of the type.

You Have To Consider Where The Money Is Coming From

When you start to think about where the money is coming from, you start to realize why the person who makes the content deserves it. Let's cover how television shows and other networks make money, from ads. This means that the more people who watch something, the more money it brings in. It is has nothing to do the quality of the content but, simply, from a financial point of view, how popular it is. Now I like to think that quality matters and movies/shows/posts that are of a higher quality tend to do better in general. But that is not a direct connection. That means whatever is bringing in the views, and I mean whatever, is what is making the money and it deserves a piece of it. Period. Even if it is a photo of your toe, that, somehow, went viral. You should work to create quality, this is just breaking down how content gets paid. On steemit it is different, based on your upvotes, you get a piece of the weekly rewards. This is a site with a community of independent users and if they decide your content is of value, then it is of value. But also, think about the fact that your posts are adding content to this site to help it grow and as it gets indexed in Google, you can be bringing in traffic to this site, which is gold in today's market.

There Is A Lot Of Crap That Makes Money

I'm not criticizing anybody. You like what you like. Maybe it is some reality tv show or some bad popcorn flick. You watch what you want to watch. And all these things make money. It is not because they are good, but because, as I discussed in the first point, they are popular. So if some reality star can buy a Ferrari why don't you deserve the money from your photos or articles?

The Medium Is the Same

Your video, photograph or piece of writing is the same regardless of where it is posted. If you post a video on Youtube, Netflix or have it played on the big screen, it is the same content. Yes the experience for the viewer is different, there may be more prestige for one over the other and the distribution is different. But the content is the same. If you create a quality piece, it is a quality piece if you upload it to Youtube or it gets picked up by a major distributor. It is the same as piece of writing, a great piece is a great piece if it on a book shelf or a post on the web.

Agreed! I feel that everyone likes to indulge in different things! Great post

I was NEVER a writer.

In fact, English is my fourth language.

It took me hours of practice to get to here.

And I am surprised to see people thinking that writing is easy.

That it doesn't take much effort as videos.

That anyone can do it.

In fact, all my life, I have found writing as one of the greatest communication tool ever.

And those who do it right?

Gets paid handsomely.

I agree about writing to be one of the greatest communication tools ever. As Hemingway put it “There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed.” It takes skill to gets people's attention and hold it in time. Some steemers make it look so easy and through my experience it is not. Steemit is fortunate to have steemers that are masters at painting with their words. “No tears in the writer, no tears in the reader. No surprise in the writer, no surprise in the reader.” ― Robert Frost

Thank you for sharing your message. I have been writing for years and it is nice to hear people message about the difficulty of the craft.

Yep! With practice, it just gets easier.

I always get paid for writing.

Only here at Steemit? The tables have turned.

Money is, well, pure luck I guess. :)

Sometimes it feels...

But I am doing it for the community.

Pouring my heart out.

And writing to help ONE person at least.

Some have told me rewards will come with more followers. And I should engage more.

Let's see what happens.

Engaging and having fun to the core.

Been 15 days here now and I am HOOKED!

Following you now! :)

#Steemit and the Steem #blockchain are changing the content creation industry. Rewarding content creators will pave way for quality content created freely on the Internet. I see lots of quality posts on Steemit lately.

I agree.
For the reason that you mention, steemit has a huge potential!

Right on @whatageek :) Resteemed. Thank you & much love!

What's funny is, TV used to be paid for by ads. Now, people pay for cable, but still get the ads.
