Distractions All Over the Place

With all the news out there not only on the media but also on the Internet, you are always distracted and lured into watching, reading or consuming something new.

How many times have you clicked on a video, an image or an article because you liked the title, the thumbnail or the picture? Too many times I guess.

But not enough, you also have advertisements on every damn platform that distract you.

People Can Not Focus Anymore

With all the distraction and new things going on people have a lot of trouble to stay focused on a project, task or exercise. You have all these Instagram kids who start their companies for 6 months and then they quit because they had no success.

These children don't get that you don't even scratch the surface after a year of learning or doing something new.

Ask a rich person that is immersed in his project and he won't hear you. He can not be distracted because that would mean that he could become interested in something else, he would become distracted and lose his focus.

We all love writing on Social Media, we all love answering comments and we all love the fun aspects of business but they are not that important. We all also love our hobbies, watching movies or hearing podcasts etc.

But it is all fucking distraction that stops us from reaching our goals. We have to be steadfast, obsessed and disciplined.

How to Stay Focused

If you want to stay focused you start with the most important thing in the morning. You work on your goals and you will not listen to any podcasts, read social media or answer any damn comments till your main task is done for the day.

1. For writing I recommend the website "TheMostDangerousWritingApp" on that website you can write your content but you can not stop or the text will be deleted.
Tip: Write any letter to reset the 5 second delete counter

2. To block advertisement I recommend the Addblocker which is really popular and should be a must have app on every browser that is installed on your computer.

3. Install the app called "Focus" in that app you can set websites that you can block in case you automatically want to look at them when you get bored.

4. You have to remind yourself to not get distracted and to not allow yourself to start a new project till you reached your goal. Too many people get bored and then they see something more promising and then they switch, leaving their old project before they reached their goal.

Conclusion

Steadfastness is absolutely essential and dealing with boredom will become important and it is basically a skill in itself. So use the 4 methods that I wrote above and you should do fine!

Awesome post. It really can be hard to focus when you force yourself. I know what you mean. I cut out news altogether, If the world is ending someone will probably tell me, it is all constructed anyway. My personal method, when possible, is to wait until I am inspired to act. That is when the magic happens. I can go 6 months without touching a project and then I am on it 24/7 all of a sudden. Maybe it is an actual medical condition but it works extremely well for me.

I know what you are saying, I always remind myself of this quote from the book "Mastery" by Robert Green when I can't focus or negative emotions prevent me from getting shit done.

"The ability to endure and even embrace mysteries, uncertainties and other negative emotions is called negative capability, this is absolutely essential for mastery."

That is the one Robert Green book I have yet to read. All the others are excellent so its a no brainer I'm getting that next. Thanks

Great article I use meditation and write to do lists using Stephen Covey's 7 habits matrix of urgent and important to not urgent and not important. I found an Excel template that makes it really easy to work out what actually matters.

Tracking my daily actions for 2 years now and knowing exactly what you mean. My routine is perfectly planned from the beginning to the end, from most important to least important. :)

I use open office and google docs!

How do you stay steadfast and focused?

I recommend meditation. It's the hardest discipline by far. Just sitting in silence and peace while breathing gently. When the mind is not focusing on anything, then it is focused, because it is not distracted.

If it helps you then do it. In my experience, it caused heavy overthinking. My meditation is staying busy, that forces me to focus at the task at hand :)

I know it's really difficult. I struggled for a long time before I could do it. But if you're overthinking a lot it means those thoughts are still in you. Keeping busy only keeps them buried, but they are still there underneath. When you can look inside yourself, directly at yourself, and all you see is peace and emptiness, then your mind is unbreakable. Solitude definitely helps, and diet is a big factor too. If your diet is very clean it becomes very easy to meditate.

I get what you mean, but my brain on autopilot creates a lot of trash.

"I am bored, I want sex, I want to eat + all kinds of doubts + thinking about the past + what are other people doing right now, etc."

So there is no reason for me to give that negative useless crap any attention :)
