Do I Dole Out Decent Upvotes to Steeemians who are Stingy and Not Very Generous and Judicial in their Own Upvoting ??

in #money7 years ago (edited)

YES !! And I tell you why.

A few Months Ago...

Back in the Winter ans Spring I would not give decent sized Upvotes to other Steemians who were very...well "ungenerous" ( wait is that a word ? lol)

But I begin to think that by doing this Iam committing two things that are flawed in their own right...
  1. Based on behavior alone and not actual Content, I was penalizing these people and not upvoting them very much. Maybe they would give me just a freaking 1 cent Upvote for an in depth reply I gave on their blog. That's sore and does hurt a little but I was taking that too personally. My advice : Reward the actual Content of peoples' work and NOT whether they are generous or not with their own Rewarding and Upvotes. Even if they hardly give you a cent for your well written Posts/Replies

  2. I am doing no better than the stingy person who is doing it himself/herself. So I refuse to stoop to their level. And I take it out of the Equation. Keep your Pride and Character in tact

Conclusion :

Give and give in abundance only if you feel like doing so and base it on the quality of the Content of another Steemian and not whether they reciprocate with high upvotes back at you :)

Peace out,
Robert Andrew

Upvote for upvote may not improve this platform. It can lead to circle jerking. You rightly expressed that we should upvote content, not the person.

Very good observation !!

No one could call you stingy. You are very generous Rob with your upvotes and replies. I upvote posts and would love to upvote every comment but my VP is still too low.

There you go, a 100% from me because I am a nice guy. ;p

I've had to slow down a little on my upvoting at times because I keep using up all my voting power... lol. Then I want to upvote something and can't give em any money

Is a good philosophy in my opinion, you can't teach others to be generous if you don't do it. Anyways it's very true that many people don't apreciate the effort of a good comment or the value of someone upvoting you.

I can't understand it, I know that the upvote of plankton like me for example hasn't almost any value but who knows if in the future that person can have a lot of SP and help you a lot. Even in terms of greediness is a bad strategy.

You're good People. Do your thing man. I always vote at 100% because I'm vote is worth so little. Can't say if that would change or not if / when my vote is worth more but I always aim to give back to content creators and people that comment on my stuff. The comments not so much once my vote is down to dust because it's better used added on to posts / comments that already have a value attached to them.

I agree with this strategy. I was actually watching a fascinating interview recently, I wish I could remember who it was with, but basically his message is everyone is way too transactional ie what do I get out of this.

He gave an example of how he gave out content for free, grew a following, one day had a tooth ache and I think little money and no dentist as he was in a new city. He posted it on Facebook and someone happenned to have an aunt in his city who was a dentist.

He talked about how that connection was made all because he put out free value and connected with people, however if back when he was initially doing it he was thinking what am I gonna get for doing this, he would have never done it in the first place.

I guess point being people are way too transactional and ultimately by providing value and helping others things are going to come back to you, you just don't know what that will look like down the road.

Bro the game theory stuff has been a big part of my time when thinking about STEEM in relation to other social networks. Why do people act the way they do.......etc.

It is a very tough thing to understand.

I wish there were more people like you on here. We have a good core group going and the question becomes if we are collectively going to have enough power to change our circumstances and those around us.

I have to make a confession my man. I try not to get too stuck on the stinginess of other people. But I can also go the other way with a few certain Steemians. For instance ( and you NEVER do this) but if you gave me a one word reply to a post of mine I would still give you a NIce Upvote. Same with @getonthetrain.

Why?? Because you guys believed in me from the very beginning and the Content I was producing and pretty much started me on an automated trail even when I only had like 60SP. That says a lot about you.

I just do not forget things like that.

Am I bad for doing that ?? Is that hypocritical from what I said in my above Post as far as rewarding people solely based on Content alone ??? Maybe I am a hypocrite. But like you said Steemit is a social media platform. So I will not make any apologies ;)

P.S. Sorry my VP is so down to only give you $.09 at full power

Yeah no worries man. I have put so much thought into what goes on with STEEM that it is pretty insane. There is one thing I have realized. I get way too tied up in trying to make "changes" or voicing what needs to be done to correct things. I was even getting in some extensive exchanges with a couple of the witnesses and my arguments are fairly sound but they acted like my logic wasn't compelling and almost like I didn't know what I'm taking about. So at the end of the day I'm pretty much sick of even dealing with any of them.

The plan is to create my own social media platform and fixing the mistakes that were made with STEEM. It has been 3 years of development that we have been able to learn from and then also some of the issues that have popped up with EOS as well. It is all a learning experience I suppose.

That is fair enough and honestly probably promotes a healthier steemit in the long run if people follow suit.

To the question in your title, my Magic 8-Ball says:
