My Two Favourite Books on Freedom and Money.
In this Sunday report I talk about one of my two favourite books on freedom and money. I would also argue they one my favourite books period. I first talk about The Law by Frederic Bastiat and then I cover What Has Government Done to Our Money by Murray N. Rothbard.
Frederic Bastiat wrote The Law in 1850 when Socialism was spreading as an idea in Europe but he had the courage to go against the tide and argue that law should protect individuals and their property and that it should not be perverted and used to legally plunder individuals. My conclusion is that nowadays, more than ever, we need to get away from the collectivist mentality and get back to a just society where government and the State administer the law in order to safeguard individual liberty.
Mr Rothbard's work is suited to all people and not just economists and it explains very well the origin of money and how societies disappear if there is no indirect exchange and as a result money. Rothbard uses the Austrian School regressive theory analysis of money to show that, like any other good and service in a free market, money should be determined in a free and competitive market.
These two books are the ones that I would recommend to anyone out there who wants to learn about freedom, government and money.
