Is there a cooler and more innovative use of the blockchain than to cut politicians out of the decision making process of a region's future? Can't think of anything right now.

But this is exactly what happened in a region in Japan. Namely, Nishiawakura Village on Honshu island, Japan, decided to bring the regions future to the new and innovative people and move to the blockchain.

The region, known for it's castles and beautiful landscapes and mostly covered in forests, denied merging with a nearby larger city, to keep their independence, earlier in the past. But now, they are issuing their own token, NAC - the Nishiawakura Coin, which grants it's holders the right to take part in decision making process for the regions ventures.

The announcement by the village, according to bitcoin.com, reads:

"In order to promote the creation of a sustainable region in the future, as a means for small local governments to secure new financing resources and to build up regions through upfront investment, tokens issuance, and the creation of virtual currencies, we will introduce fundraising through an ICO for the first time as a municipality in Japan"

All the funds raised in the ICO will be used towards the enhancement of the regions economic standing, in collaboration with the token holders.

Whether this can be abused or not - we'll see. An interesting case anyway

Microsoft

While Steem was one of the pilots, that allowed content creators getting paid, it wasn't by far the only one. Microsoft, partnering with Ernst & Young (lookup Ernst & Young and you'll see it is a giant behemoth of multinational enterprise with various services in all areas), has announced an ambitious blockchain project, where content creators get paid royalties, mainly aimed at their game publishing partners.

Publishers will get paid royalties as per share in the smart contract for every purchase made. Eventually, as the system gets tested and accepted, Microsofties plan to spread out and cover all markets, where licensing and intellectual rights management is needed.

Perhaps the advance of such technology will allow software to become cheaper and allow us all to be a bigger part of it. A few cool projects surfacing one after another :)
