Currently there are three types, web, nativ and hybrid type of application development. Web is one of the most colorful with a nice interface, but sometimes it has very limited functionality. It needs an internet connection and nativ is one of the most complicated development types but it has the most features. Hybrid type of development, it is a mixture of the two types of development.
Well the hybrid type of development as I understand it is how many js developers on angular framework develop android apps. Pure nativ development is development using one high-level programming language and css for markup.
