Our Women part-1

Once,as some four or five elderly folk were having a chat, they taunted this writer as usual. A member of the legal profession began:

"Hey Mya, you read quite a lot and write too. Now it is important we do away with outdated ideas. This is a writer's responsibility, isn't it?"

me: Yes

Now why not write something to help change an aspect of our.... women's thinkings?

me: Yes

"It's like this. In our country we have more women than there are men, so Myanma women have to turn to foreigners. With the result that from generation to generation our culture, our religion, our race get impaired and then will be no more. What about solving this problem this way?"

me: Yes, go ahead. How shall we solve it?

"It is easy enough. If everyone of the menfolk takes to wife two, or let's say three women at the same time, then our women won't have to go over to the aliens. So it's up to the leading women writers like you to take the initiative. Just let your man take another woman, perhaps two. If women of your intelligence show generosity and set a good example. I'm sure others will follow suit. What do you say? Will you do it?

This was lauded with haw haw's form the other gentlemen who began taunting me with "There you are what do you say?" They wer waiting for an explosion of fury on the part of the writer. But she only smiled.
