Well we all know the story of the boomerang... Some compare the boomerang to karma for good reason because what goes around comes around.

They don't take assault lightly in Australia. Fabricio Werdum received a fine of $600 on Wednesday in an Australian court. He was found guilty of throwing a boomerang and hitting fellow UFC fighter Colby Covington in the neck last month.

Werdum couldn't be bothered to show up to Downing Centre Local Court, so the matter was adjudicated without him.

The incident occurred Nov. 16, just days before Werdum fought against Marcin Tybura at UFC Sydney. Werdum and Covington got into a verbal altercation and Werdum threw the boomerang, given to him by a fan as a souvenir. It was captured on video by UFC fighter Dan Hooker. Werdum ended up being charged one day later with common assault by the New South Wales Police Force.

This is a sad state of affairs when UFC fighters have to resort to petty violence rather than just settle their differences in the ring.

This incident didn't come out of nowhere. It seems Covington has drawn a lot of heat from Brazilian fighters and coaches — including his own teammates — for slagging off Brazil and its fans.

Werdum, the former UFC heavyweight champion, claimed Convington referring to the people of Brazil as “filthy Brazilians” and when the two crossed paths Werdum slapped a phone out of Covington’s hands. Covington kicked him in retaliation, Werdum said.

Covington hae another story saying that he never provoked the confrontation and claiming that he never kicked Werdum. Part of the confrontation was captured by Covington on his Instagram Live, where Covington was recording referring to Werdum with an anti-gay slur.

UFC president Dana White had a few things to say about the incident. Overall he seemed disappointed that this whole chain of events needed to take place at all.

"Believe me, I get it, I get it that Colby disrespected Brazil and all the Brazilian people,” UFC president Dana White said of the incident two weeks ago. “I know how Brazilians get about that stuff. You just can’t go around assaulting people, you know? You just can’t do it. It’s bad.”

I suppose 600 dollars isn't bad for a top-ranked UFC fighter. But, the antics outside of the cage are getting a bit much. They do enough proving themselves when they compete. I actually touched on that on a piece I wrote for Sherdog not so long ago.

Thanks for writing this, I forgot the court date was yesterday.
