Pasta With White Cabbage And Smoked Goat Cheese. Why Should We Eat More Vegetables Like Cabbage?

Why should we eat more vegetables like cabbage?

Cabbage falls under the cruciferous vegetables, these kinds of vegetables are very potent in fighting cancer and much more!
They are truly amazing!
Let's take a look at what the scientific studies tell us in this video, reported by Dr. Ronda Patrick.

This was a lot to chew on, wasn't it? I will summarize to most important points for you.

  • Increased consumption of cruciferous vegetables was associated with reductions in all-cause mortalities.
  • Including decreased cancer mortality, specifically prostate, bladder, lung and breast cancer.
  • They think it likely has to do with compounds like sulforaphane present in these kinds of vegetables.
  • They have been shown to slow cancer progression in human studies.
  • In mice it has been shown to prevent cancer when exposed to carcinogens.
  • The best source of sulforaphane is found in broccoli sprouts, they contain up to 100x more of the sulforaphane precursor than mature broccoli.
  • Sulforaphane lowers DNA damage by reducing oxidative stress and inflammation. These processes are central to cancer, aging, neurodegenerative diseases and more.

If you want the most benefits of  the sulforaphane, you should steam your cruciferous vegetables no more then 3 or 4 minutes. But for this pasta recipe I did longer, because I didn't want to have too crunchy cabbage in there, but this is completely up you off course.

Wow, I am glad that's over! That was a lot of info... Probably a lot of you did even make
it 10 minutes into the video..haha..  I hope this info has served you well. Now you can enjoy the recipe.

Pasta with cabbage and smoked goat cheese!

Ingredients :

  • 1/2 white cabbage
  • small onion
  • 250gr. mushrooms (this time I used regular mushrooms, but I prefer Oyster mushrooms)
  • cherry tomatoes
  • green olives
  • rocket salad
  • fresh basil and parsley
  • a clove of garlic
  • smoked goat cheese
  • pepper & salt
  • 250gr. whole spelt pasta (or regular whole wheat pasta, or gluten-free pasta)
  • 3 liters of water and a tbsp of sea salt

Preparation :

First put a large pot of water on the stove to boil. Later when the water is boiling,  add the pasta and salt to the water at the same time you start steaming the cabbage.
But first start cutting the onion and cabbage in small strips, tear the oyster mushrooms in half or if regular mushrooms, cut them in quarters.

I always prefer to steam my vegetables, but you can fry the mushrooms and onion in oil if you prefer. After a couple of minutes frying you can add the cabbage.
When you add the cabbage, add a glass of water, it is better to steam the cabbage.  If you prefer to steam everything like me, then throw the onion, cabbage and mushrooms together in a pot with a glass of water, put on medium heat, close the lid and stir every once and awhile.
After 5 minutes add half of the garlic (crushed and finely chopped), the tomatoes cut in half and the green olives. Now stir and close the lid again.
Finely chop the basil and parsley.
Mix in the basil in the last few minutes but save the parsley for garnish.
When the pasta and vegetables are ready, mix them together, add the rest of the garlic, and season it with pepper and salt to taste..
Serve a plate with parsley, rocket salad, olive oil and grated smoked goat cheese on top.

Now sit back relax and enjoy your dinner as always...

Super nice and healthful dish! I'm a big fan of Dr. Rhonda Patrick's podcast. She is amazing. Sometimes it is a little over my head but I keep listening. I have learned a ton from her about health and longevity.

Thanks mate :) I discovered her on the joe roegan podcast, she explained so much in such a short time. It is amazing how much this lady knows about studies.

I like Joe Rogan too! I find when I listen to Dr Rhonda Patrick I'm thinking, "I need to do what she says". Her message is so clear... Do "This" and live healthier, longer.

It ain't easy to create new and healthy habbits :)
