Steemit : Is the system fair ? Can Minnows make it work?

steem (1).jpg

Recently, I have seen various comments airing certain views of whether the Steemit system is fair especially for Minnows like myself. So here is my take.

Rewards:

Steemit is like a cross bred of Facebook + Wikipedia plus the incentive of a REWARD system. Let us not lie to ourselves. If Steemit is just another social media platform, chances are we would have stuck to those we are currently using. So the key is the reward system.

But when we add humans into the REWARD + POWER formula, things can get complex.
Most of us in our early days in Steemit would know that most of our early posts are only worth a few cents at the start and even after some time. Chances are we would be envying those Steemians that can generate hundred or even thousands of steem dollars for every post that they uploaded.

Whales are unfair?

Most of us know Whales are the most powerful beings in Steemit. For those who caught a lucky break with any Whale that liked your post, chances are that you would have climb the ladder much faster than the rest.

But is it fair to say Whales are unfair?
Let us not be too critical on the Whales or Dolphins. After all, they are humans as well. Since we have only a limited number of hours to read as many post, so do they. With this limited time, chances are we would vote for posts that tend to be appeal more to our hearts.

And with a community this BIG and with huge number of new members joining daily, there will be lots of excellent posts that will not be viewed by many. Since many of us have day jobs, including myself, we do only have that limited amount of time after work to read, upvote and resteemed posts. Main thing is not to be too harsh on everyone.

Unfair advantage from social media influencers?

I do read that there has been quite a lot of Steemians who switched to Steemit from other social media platforms. And they have massive numbers of followers. So high chance these social media influencers would be earning Steem dollars at a faster pace compared to minnows like me.

Wouldn’t we envy them and wish we could be like them. Unlike us minnows still trying to slowly build up our reputation. But looking at it from another angle, these influencers went through the same hardship as what we are going through now when they were building up their followers on the other social platforms. So let us give them their due credits.

NO Hope for Minnows?

So does it mean that we minnows, rather than to grow, we will drown instead?
Whatever post we upload will never be appreciated or hardly having constructive comments?

Rather than to hope for some luck, the next best thing to do is to leverage on a support group. In that way, you can tap a wider audience group. And with the encouragement given, the motivation to continue posting will always be there.
I am sure there are many support groups out there catering to different needs of everyone.

But for me, I joined a group created by a group of awesome guys, #minnowsupportproject.

Gif is created by by @juanmiguelssalas for the group. Yes, to some it might be surprising as to how can a group of minnows form a support group. But that’s the beauty of it. Unity is strength. For those interested, do click on the link below to read more.

With Steemit being such a BIG community, there will definitely be some “politics” which is unavoidable. But by and large, the community is a supportive and encouraging. I am sure there will be adjustments along the way to make the platform better. After all, Steemit only started in 2016. Rome wasn't build in a day, so there is always room to make the system better. Don’t Worry, Continue Steeming as you pleased. You will reap the rewards eventually. Maybe not now, but surely eventually.

I just arrived about 20 hours ago, so I can be your test subject!

@captain-nemo, glad you arrived. Happy steeming. Shorten your leaning curve by joining a support group. It allows us minnows to leverage on wide network of people : ) Check out the link in my post. Join if you feel it make sense to you. Happy Steeming. Will follow you. Hope to see posts from you.

I hope to make it here..

yes we can make it. Maybe not immediately but eventually.

Thanks for the positive vibes :) I'm running blogs outside of Steemit as well, so I'm kinda busy these days.

Glad to know you are doing well in your blogs. Thumbs up. You could even introduce your followers to steemit as well and bring them over to steemit. Good things are meant to be spread around : )

I'm going to be looking into both this and the other post you linked to.

Always good to continue exploring. Do share with the community any insights you found : )

Really helpful and positive, just what I'd like to read.

Thanks. Your name sure is awesome too. Gives people the vibe that hope is always around : )
