@maninayton Visits A Major Seabird Sanctury At Bempton Cliffs
Every year over 250,00 sea birds make their nests and raise young at the nature reserve of Bempton Cliffs.
Run by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), the nature reserve has been nicknamed Seabird City due to the sheer numbers of birds that make their home there.
The Highest Cliffs In England
Bempton Cliffs are formed from hard chalk deposits and stretch for 6 miles (10km) along the East coast of Yorkshire.
The cliffs are over 330 feet (100M) high in places making them the highest in England.
The Only Mainland Gannetry
Bempton Cliffs are the only mainland gannetry in England. Between February and October thousand of Gannets descend on the cliffs to breed.
The cliffs also support the largest colony of Kittiwakes in mainland Britain.
One of the firm favourites at the cliffs is the Puffin. Although I have yet to see any when I visit.

It Can Be Overpoweringly Smelly!
The one drawback to the place is the smell! On a warm day with the wind blowing in off the sea, the smell of fishy bird poo from the cliffs can make the eyes water!
The sight of all these birds congregated in one place is worth it though and you do actually get used to the smell in time.
