@maninayton Makes Rhubarb Gin
We have a glut of rhubarb at the moment so what better way to use some of it than to make it alcoholic!
This is an extremely simple recipe that takes only around twenty minutes or so to do.
The Recipe
To make rhubarb gin you will need:-
- 500g (1 Ib) rhubarb (obviously!).
- 70cl bottle of gin (again obvious - just go for the cheap supermarket stuff).
- 50g (1.5oz) sugar.
- Clean jars for mixing.
The Method
In the photo below you can see all the ingredients gathered together. Gin, rhubarb, sugar and mixing jars. I used a couple of old coffee jars to do the mixing.
Our rhubarb may be a bit too green so we may not obtain a nice red colour to the gin. Never mind we'll give it a go and see what we get.
Trim the rhubarb, cut into chunks and place into your mixing jars.
Add the sugar. Rather more than the 50g here. I went a bit over the top with the sugar. :-)
Cover the rhubarb with the gin and seal the jars.
Don't worry about the sugar. It will dissolve in time.
Place the jar/s into a cool dark place and shake them every couple of days for at least two weeks.
At the end of the two weeks strain the gin into a clean bottle/s and enjoy!
Hopefully we should have a nicely flavoured gin that will go well in mixes.
I'll post the results in a couple of weeks.
