A Markdown is a way to style text on the web. You control the display of the document; formatting words as bold or italic, adding images, and creating lists are just a few of the things we can do with Markdown. Mostly, Markdown is just regular text with a few non-alphabetic characters thrown in. And steemit the github markdown

As a newbie i came across posts with different text styles and format all within a single post and i wondered how they did it
Im talking about

• bold text
• italics

• headers

• an unordered list liked this one

or a blockquote like this

Now im going to list the functions of the basic ones i listed there but to get a full list of the markdown visit

• to get bold text, put your text in between 4 asterisks like so "**my text **"
• to get italics, put your text inbetween 2 asterisks
• to get a header, put a hash tag before the text like so "# myheader" ensure there is a space between the hashtag and your header. For a header the more hash tags you put in front of your heading the smaller it will be
• to get a blockquote simply put a ">" in front of the paragraph you want to quote like so ">some text i want to blockquote"
• for an unordered list like this one put a minus sign before every item in the list "-item 1" "- item 2"

Now these are some of the basics markdown you need but there is another way...
Introducing the steemit inbuilt editor activated be clicking the editor button on the post page

This gives you the option to just click a button to get a desired effect
