Confused. Help a minnow out? @minnowsupport @minnowsupportproject

in minnowsupport •  10 days ago

I only just arrived on steemit and I'm not here to get rich, so I don't really get how all the cryptocurrency stuff works yet.

In my wallet's 'History', there's a transfer which I don't understand at all but which does look slightly worriesome.

There are currently two entries. The one which says 'received from' seems pretty self explanatory, (thanks @tuanis) but I don't understand the other one which says 'transfer to'. I didn't authorise any transfer to anybody, at least not knowingly.

Have I been hacked? Why would they only take 0.002 SBD? What does it all mean?

Confused. Please help!
Cheers.

actually I can't tell you but they seem to be related.
maybe the transaction for registration funds got redirected to null.
(everyone can see the wallets)

null is where you want to transfer, if you want to destroy steem (like pulverize your money).

also you will receive from time to time 0.001 or something similar from some who wish to offer you their "resteem service". this is to be ignored, it's basically spam. on steempeak you can activate to not see it and not get notified by it (kinda a spamfilter).

I don't see this as any evidence you have been hacked.

Cheers @mielia that's somewhat reassuring....feel like I should probably crack on with figuring all this stuff out fairly rapidly now.

Forgive my ignorance but why would you want to destroy steem by sending it to null? And why has my account transferred to null without me telling it to?

If you don't know, might you know anybody else I could ask? I was expecting a more helpful response from @minnowsupport or @minnowsupportgroup tbh...maybe they don't get notified of tags in titles...

Thanks again.

Actually,
I'm sorry. I believe I misunderstood null and thus delivered you a false explanation.

Steem doesn't get removed, SBD does and for a reason.
Your account didn't send to null. The promoting account's SBDs were automatically send to null, your wallet wasn't affected. You only got to see for how much worth of value you got promoted. That's how I understand it now.

https://steemit.com/faq.html

When you make a post, there is the option to promote it with Steem Dollars. It will then show up in the “Promoted” tab. The order that it appears in the list depends on how much the post was promoted for. Posts with a higher promoted amount will be higher than posts with less.

Steem Dollars spent to promote a post are paid to the account @null, which nobody owns or controls. Once a user transfers SBD to @null, the Steem blockchain removes them from the currency supply. Details can be found in this official post.

ah ok!
It makes more sense now, I did try to promote a post when I first got the account. Thanks a lot for taking the time to dig this out @mielia - has taken a load off. Much appreciated. :D

Good evening @ann-narkeh. First, as you appear to be new here on Steem, welcome to the "Steemisphere!"

Just "dropping in," after finding your post via several links. Noted both some enthusiasm for Steem, then seeing this one, thought I would see what I might do to help.

Looks like you've got your specific concern addressed though!

Just a little bit of additional help. The way to get help from the Minnow Support Project would be to join their Discord channel. You can find details on their @minnowsupport account.

Also, if you have not already done this, you never want to log in here with anything other than your Posting Private key. If this is unfamiliar to you, get back to me and I will help further with that.

All the best to you!

Thanks @roleerob
I haven't set up a discord yet, will get round to it asap.
Cheers.
