Nvidia CEO: Cryptocurrencies are here to stay

Nvidias second-quarter earnings were up 56% from this time last year. Its GPU division took in $1.9 billion during the second quarter, a rise of 59 percent compared to the same time in 2016.

Jen-Hsun Huang Nvidia's CEO:

"Cryptocurrency and blockchain are here to stay. Over time, it will become quite large. It is very clear that new currencies will come to market. It’s clear the GPU is fantastic at cryptography. The GPU is really quite well positioned."

This comes on the heels of my recent post about the AMD CEO announcing cryptocurrency mining is not a long term growth driver:

Interesting to hear these two counter sentiments from the worlds largest GPU manufacturers. Gives us minimal clarity on the future and feasibility of home mining. More specialized GPUs and faster ASICS are in the works i'm sure, it just leaves me.... hesitant.. i guess, to buy any existing hardware for the purposes of mining. Will there be a day soon where mining will be completely dominated by large facilities and data centers? is it already?
