SHOCKING NEWS MATES!!! Do you love crypto? Of course you do. Now let's learn how to MINE YOUR OWN ETHER!!!!

in #mining7 years ago (edited)

I am going to walk you through step by step with pictures on what equipment you need to buy to build your own 6 GPU ether mining rig!!!

THIS IS JUST A PREVIEW TO THE MADNESS. I WILL RELEASE THE FULL ARTICLE LATER AND SHOW YOU HOW TO INSTALL THE SOFTWARE AND GET RUNNING!

If you would like to get started early, here is what you are going to need....

IMG_1220.JPG

What we have here:

  1. 7 varieties of the NVIDIA GTX GeForce 1070 GPU (EVGA, EVGA Superclocked, EVGA FTW2 and Strix Gaming)
  2. Corsair 1200w PSU
  3. 2x4gb DDR4 RAM (8gb total)Evo Potenza by Geil
  4. Gigabyte Z270-HD3 (socket 1151 for intel celeron processor which is not pictured)
  5. Also not pictured above: USB riser cables, a Solid State Hard Drive

Remember!!!!!
Your rig is not going to be multitasking a ton so a dual core CPU will work just fine.

and

The riser cables can be found on amazon and ebay for the most part. They will be sold by companies you most likely haven't heard of. ORDER THEM, you needz them.

YOU WANT MORE OF THESE!? You better listen boys and girls.

What we have here are also very useful.

  1. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 GPU founder's edition by NVIDIA (We used 6)
  2. 8gb DDR4 RAM by Ballistix
  3. An Intel i3 processor which was over $100, but I bough it with a clearance motherboard at Micro Center so I got the bundle deal and a bunch of loot off for the mother board MAKE SURE YOU CHECK THE PINS BEFORE YOU BUY!!!
  4. Motherboard is a Gigabyte G1 Gaming mother board
  5. SSD by San Disk

IMG_1034.JPG

Alright kids this is what the riser cards look like going into your motherboard. Make sure the board you buy has enough slots for what you are trying to accomplish!!!

IMG_1035.JPG

Beautiful! What your motherboard should look like after installing the GPUs with riser cables, the CPU, the RAM, and the hard drive which we will need for operating system.

**PSU is not installed at this point

IMG_1095.JPG

I've seen a lot of different techniques and I am sure they all work well. However...you can buy this rack at Target for $25, and with some zip ties it is very useful and aesthetic.

IMG_1097.JPG

Here we zip tied the mother board and connected the PSU. The PSU is a 1375w by ThermaItake (Toughpower XT Gold). Wasn't the first choice, as you may know many of these products are limited and hard to find right now, so make your best decisions but make them before someone else does!

IMG_1100.JPG

Here's my steemit/real life friend Anthony (I will have to link him in the replies) connecting to the GPUs with zip tie. NOTE: we did remove the foam around the PSU before we started the rig.

You will also see that by this time Anthony has connected the San Disk SSD but hasn't chosen a final placement just yet.

Here's a nice clear look from the other angle.

IMG_1105.JPG

Connections from PSU to all six GPUs. Check em twice!

IMG_1107.JPG

Here's another straight on shot of the riser cables on the motherboard.

IMG_1111.JPG

Here you can see from the bottom view how we zip tied the GPUs.

Shiva wanted to get in on the action! Sorry Shiva...its the thumb thing...

IMG_1116.JPG
OH yeah baby, we got lights.
IMG_1117.JPG
Starting to look like a finished product!!

Please stay tuned for my next blog post which will tell you what to do with all of this fancy equipment!!

In the meantime see if you can find yourself a copy of PiMP OS at www.getPiMP.org (Portable Instant Mining Platform)

Thanks for checking out my guide. If you like it, vote it!

Take it easy!

Great post, helps a lot. I am starting on it also. How did you connect power supply to your raiser cables? Molex - Sata -> Sata cable?

@noperope sata cable USB then molex

nice rigg... 28 mhsh/GPU? ;)

@fosograf thanks! These GPU can get 32mh/s if you overclock them correctly. I needed help OC'ing them myself however 28mh/s is correct without OC

To 32 to disperse, but it greatly reduces the life time of the GPU... In all forums miners are advised not above 29, optimally 27.5...

@fosograf I just build them and sell them what do I know?

in the effluent of these GPUs give around 22, with gentle acceleration - 28, 32 will not allow them to live long, respectively, and the profit will be less at times, as I will have to buy new cards... In addition to noticeable will increase and the power consumption. Much more profitable to mine in dual mode etherium+decred in a sparing mode!! Will come around 27.5-29 MHs ETH + ~800MHs DCR with each GPU! ^^

I forgot to ask one question: Is it profitable mining eth? I saw the difficulty curve myself and how it has grown exponentially. Wondering if i were to move a quick 6k to a mining rig would it not be more advantageous to mine a slightly less well known but profitable coin on the eth chain?

It is still profitable @jesusjuice, a rig like this will cost you $3k and make $1k a month after electricity costs, assuming ether trades at $250 and you pay .12 kw/h avg

I actually pay a little less. I have a full shop to setup a unit, but right now? 3,ooo???? No man. I can build a lot but i can't but gtx 1070s for a decent price. I think it'd be closer to 6k with cooling solutions and all.
But thank you very much for the info.

Awsome post I want to get into it too!!!

thanks @ch00fy! if you have any questions feel free to ask! also, if you liked it enough to re-steem go right ahead I dont mind!

HEY EVERYONE, @anthonyntran is my best friend and he's just as big a part of this project as I am if not bigger, thanks for all of the help!

Nice post it's coming right along. We'll have it running in no time

Wow great post Sir, will be following your next post on this. I am planning also to make a mining rig too. Hopefully this year, I will be waiting for the Radeon mining editions that I think will be released this July.

@vallesleoruther thank you I'm glad it was useful. Feel free to check back and collaborate or give feedback. The mining specific cards look awesome although I have heard you need to order many units (10k I've heard) correct me if I'm wrong.

That is a game changer though the 10k units have to be ordered to get one, I will try to verify. Will go with the TI 1070/1080 if that is the case Radeon RX 500 series and RX 400 series are not currently available here, they are overpriced here triple the price because all of the stocks was bought by miners haha.

Great post mate! Lots of effort in there. Just a side note, im finding DBIX mining is far more profitable than ether. same algorithm but much greater return. Thought id share

What pool are you using? What program and what os?

Same algorithm. So you can just use Claymore. Pool im currently using is http://dbix2.pool.sexy . You will also just need to download the wallet from repo!.

I'm also interested!

Nixe rig! I just released a post about my DIY mining rig :D It doesn't have that many cards like yours :c

@jbp thanks I'm glad you like it!

well i would prefer radeon rx580 over geforce, anyway in my opionon mining eth will not be profitable after 2-3 months

the rx480 and rx580 are great for the price but they are also very hard to find right, so I wanted to do a guide with equipment that someone can actually get right now! why do you think it wont be profitable @lozonjarja , besides difficulty?
