7 Mindset Shifts To Train Your Mind To Do The Impossible

The last few years I have been increasingly interested and serious about the potential of my mind, and how to train it to achieve my own dreams and desires. In this article I'd like to share some of the most powerful ways that I've discovered to reshape the human "thinking cap".

If you have big goals in life, the road will be difficult, and seemingly impossible. The place you have to start is with the right mindset. Mind is the golden key to unlock all of your desires and potentials. Mind will show you the path to strength, energy, enthusiasm and belief. Mind will lead you to your spirit and true potential, to See, Feel and Believe that you are Unstoppable.

  1. Meditate Daily
    The brain will rewire itself.

More and more research over the last number of years is starting to illustrate some new benefits of meditation, and is now being confirmed with fMRI or EEG. The practice appears to have an amazing variety of neurological benefits – from changes in grey matter (part of the brain responsible for memory, seeing, hearing, executive functions, impulse control, emotions and speech) to reduced activity in the “me” centers of the brain, to enhanced connectivity between brain regions.

The How-To to transform your everyday life is through mindfulness meditation. It is a simple strategy to develop and may be practiced anywhere. The goal is to experience greater levels of focus, more productivity, and more happiness in life.

Here's how the meditation works:

Focus: The first step is to Focus – become aware of where your consciousness is directed. In the beginning your mind will be wandering and scattered, but, like The Beatles said, "Let It Be".

Find: The second step is to Find – here we want to redirect your attention to the present moment. The most steady and rhythmic thing in your life, is breath. Watch your breath, and the sensations in your body. Breath will lead you to the present moment.

Flow: The last step is to Flow – here we want to integrate the practice of mindfulness into the moment-to-moment flow of life. Mindfulness is the ability to be fully present and aware of where we are and what we’re doing. The goal of mindfulness is not to quiet the mind or attempt to stop your thoughts. The goal is simple: we’re aiming to pay attention to the present moment, without judgement. The Flow is the practice of returning, again and again and again, to the present, to the "NOW". When in doubt, Flow with Breath.

Now... Practice! Sit comfortably, cross your legs, back straight, eyes closed, and Focus, Find and Flow.

  1. Focus On What You Want
    Don't worry about what you can't control.

So, here is the secret, listen closely. The most powerful technique you can use to create your immediate and continued success is to stay focused on what you want. All of your energy must go towards your goals and dreams. No time and energy should be spent on the worries, doubts and hurts.

How do you counteract all of the negative thinking? Dream and visualize several times a day what it is that you want in your life. Pray and ask Spirit to guide you, surround yourself with images and music that inspires you, make a Dream Board, and create a "Mantra" that keeps you focused on the goal!

  1. Think Big
    Think outside the box. In fact, destroy that box.

There is not time for small. Small ideas generate small accomplishments. It's time to think differently, look from a new perspective and throw out old ideas that are going no where.

How do we approach problems in new, innovative ways? By conceptualizing problems differently; and understanding your position in relation to any particular situation in a way you’d never thought of before.

This can be done in many different ways:

Study another industry
Learn about another religion
Take a class
Read a book that is NOT in your genre
Write a poem
Draw a picture
Turn a photo upside down to see things differently
Start at the end, and work backwards
Ask a child for advice
Open up to chaos and random ideas
Travel somewhere you'd normally not consider

  1. Live Simply
    There is beauty in simplicity.
    Living simply allows you to sever activities and habits that kill too much time and hurt the most important areas of life. We spend most of our lives sleeping and working. Simplifying life allows us to work less on the things we hate, and more on the things we love.

Living a life of simplicity produces more diversification, opens up new experiences for spontaneity, and reduces expenses so you can accomplish more with less. Living simply can make your life full, happy, and fulfilling in every stage of human growth. And that’s why living a simple life is better.

  1. Work Hard Every Day
    Nobody cares, work harder.

Some people will claim the secrets to success is based on certain principles. Some people will say, just follow these 10 Steps To Success. But you know what, the truth is there’s only one thing to succeed at anything great in life, and that’s Hard Work.

Working hard means focused and consistent work. That means saying no to distractions for a long time, not wanting fast results but being patient and believing in the process, changing your approach and strategies and trying new things while sticking to your initial vision and always keeping it in mind.

Success doesn’t happen by chance. It takes strategic actions in the right direction to get there. It doesn’t happen overnight either. There are more failures during the journey than most people allow themselves to admit, it’s just that the stories about overnight success sound better.

In the end of the day, it’s all about how hard you’ve worked on the right thing – the one which will get you closer to your goal.

  1. Release Your Inner Negativity
    We don't appreciate negative vibes around here. Move along.

If you allow yourself to dwell on the negative, then habitual skepticism will run your life and influence your decisions. You are effectively resigning yourself to a cycle of hesitation and distrust. It is hard, if not impossible, to build success when you have resigned yourself to negativity.

The first step is to let your negativity go. It’s time to focus on the affirmative. Take control of your mind and direct it toward the positive. You can start doing this by deliberately and frequently centering your thoughts on things that make you happy.

Start consciously taking a different approach to your thinking. One simple tip is to spend a moment calming your mind when you are feeling frazzled, stressed or distracted. Slow things down, take a few deep breaths and then empty your mind of negative thoughts. Focus on filling your lungs with air. Now you are ready for a positive reboot.

  1. Create A Cycle Of Joy
    Joy is the simplest form of gratitude.

When we are nice to others -- when we engage in acts of kindness and make others feel good - we boost our own happiness. Even small acts that make others smile can bring us joy. Doing something nice is also a powerful way to halt a negativity loop.

For instance, you may be feeling anxious about an upcoming meeting or stressed about a recent interaction with a friend or colleague, and your usual pattern of thinking is to worry about it. Instead of fretting, try doing something compassionate for another person.

You’ll find that taking a moment to do a small favor, buy someone a cup of coffee or help a stranger out can give you a little boost. It’s like an instant shot of happiness. Use those positive feelings to channel your thinking into a positive pattern.

The best shift for anything is progress, feeling accomplished, grateful and truly satisfied with what you’re doing. That makes the whole process enjoyable and you find the strength to persevere.
