Another Millenial bites the dust...in my opinion.

To protect the guilty....I'll call him Mike.  Anyway, the story goes like this.

Mike works the cash register at a roadside store (grocery with a small bar and grill in the back) near me...a rural area in the Pacific Northwest.  He's around 30, and is quick to offer advice on a myriad of subjects, from nutrition to plumbing.  He's not stupid, and he's fun to talk to.

A few months back he told me he was struggling to get to work, as he needed a new starter for his car.  He didn't have the money for this $100+ part.  I offered to help out by fronting him the money for the part, in return for a bit of help around my place.  We agreed to $20 an hour, cash, and I gave him $160, thinking, great...I could really use 8 hours of help.

Long story short...I got about 2.5 hours of help...and then...silence.  I've seen him five or so times since, and he never mentions the bargain, though I have texted him a few times regarding making a date to have him come over to complete the bargain.

Some might have pressed him.  I decided just to sit back, once I got that this guy was just going to see if he could skate on the rest of the hours he owed me.

I'm now sure...he'll never bring up the fact that he owes me 5+ hours of help around my place.  Today was all the proof I needed.

I dropped in during Mike's shift, and asked him...so, any news on the sale?

This business is up for sale.  At one point, the people who work there sat down together to see if it would be possible to pool their resources to buy it, thus enabling them to become owners vs. employees.  It didn't work out....so, now it's a waiting game for the employees.

Anyway, after I asked for an update on the sale, Mike launched into a rant about how "betrayed" he felt.  He had "given" 8 months of his life....working there (really?...given...he wasn't paid???)...and now he was sure that the owner wanted to get the biggest bang for his buck when he sold the business.  At this point he compared the owner to Trump, who only "cared about money."  In other words...Mike was afraid the owner was going to sell to the highest bidder, vs. a buyer who had the well-being of the current employees in mind.

What???

Now, get this.  The current owner is a man of retirement age who has a wife who had a stroke last year, losing her ability to be an active partner in minding the store.  And...their daughter is around 20 or so...and her autism is severe...making it indistinguishable, from my point of view, from full blown mental retardation.

What's wrong with this picture?  Mike's attitude borders on sociopathy, a total lack of compassion, and total failure to consider the position his boss is in.  Before I left...I told him...you know, Mike...this will be the story of your whole life...until you own your own business...at which time, you'll be looking to get the biggest bang for your buck.

He was a bit taken aback.  I think it's important that we talk back to this delusional generation.   From what I can tell, it's a generational mental deficiency that skews their world view...Socialism is good, and everything should be free.  It's depressing, and it's dangerous.  Let's start speaking up...and let's study Venezuela.  They've already eaten the zoo animals....what's next?

Don't tell me, you're a millenial?

Don't tell me, you label a complete generation as delusional?

No indeed, sorry if I gave that impression. I raised a millenial son, who I love very much...as I do many of his friends, and his wife.
