I will come back for you.
With their totally worn out shoes, the father and son walked in haste to their destination. You could see the father bloodied foot from the large opening in front to his shoe. Their clothes were faded, ragged with insect holes as it design. And with their pale faces, unpertubed by the look others gave them as they walked.
They stopped. The father pressed the button to ring the occupants staying in the white painted building. It was tall and beautiful. The building radiates even from afar. You could tell, these two had no business in this kind of setting. But, they were there, pressing the button for the second time to ring the residents. The door opened and a man in his late fifties came out to meet them. He stretched out his arm, containing the pouch of coins to the father. He collected it and examined the content. Then he whispered into his son's ear and told him to go to the man.
'I will come back for you son,' he said to his son.
The son nodded and smile.
He watched his father walk away. He knew he wasn't coming back for him. He knew the pouch was in exchange for him.
He wasn't mad at his father though, it's been two days since they ate. Now, he would be able to eat. He kept looking into the street until the dirty wear his father had on was no longer in vision.

That tags on my heart. Of course, in my mind, the son was sold for sex or something. Hoping that it was a kind adoption...
I was thinking of those sold into slavery. And when you are owned by someone, you don't have a life of your own. So, he's life now is in the hand of his master.
Thanks for reading.
Yes, slavery came to my mind too. You always tackle such deep subjects in your writing. good for you!!

This is a very poignant story, @wems. What a sad thing, to have to sell your child! And even worse, to be the child who has been sold. The child seems to have accepted the situation, that the father had no choice, and that it will mean a better life.
I wish he knew what awaits him. A slave being alive or dead is not a priority to his/her master. Another slave would replace you.
Thanks for reading @jayna
Very touching story. So sad that people are actually in that situation. The son says he's not mad at the father, but I don't think he realizes what has just happened to him. A I don't feel like the father is truly remorseful, since he lied to his son when he handed him over.
