Shattered Dream - 50 word short story contest: time to switch it up!
Here's my entry for @jayna's new and improved microfiction story contest - the prompt is "grace". Here's a link to her post: link
Shattered Dream
The ice rink was crowded with amateurs brought out by the mild weather. Jan was here every day possible, practicing after the accident. The Jr Olympic final tryouts were in five weeks.
She was grace and fluidity personified as she glided around the rink. Observers around the rink paused their hot chocolate sipping to admire her performance.
Jan was picking up speed to practice a camel spin and it happened in a heart stopping instant. Choosing between the falling child and her Olympic dreams, she felt the ankle snap again as she crashed into the retaining wall.

Oh my. That is a very dramatic story right there, @blueeyes. Self-sacrifice is never easy, and it sometimes must be made without a second to consider the implications!
Poor girl losing her Olympic dream in another accident. She did the right thing though in avoiding injuring the child.
Your story feels as if I am hit by a train. Wonder if you published a book.

Thank you for the kind words. I was trying for a deep reaction. No, I've never published a book, but I'm currently working on the skills necessary to do that.
I think you have these skills. Hope to read your book one day
