Day 1: Mysore, Karnataka, India

in #mgsc6 years ago

This is the first day of the trip which was completely spent in Mysore.
I had visited several places in Mysore which are:

  1. Sand Museum
  2. Shell Museum
  3. Chamundi Hills
  4. Mysore Palace
  5. Mysore Zoo
  6. Art Gallery
  7. Brindavan Gardens

At around 7:00 am, I had boarded a bus from Bangalore(Majestic Bus Station) to Mysore which I had booked online and I reached Mysore by 11:30 am. I met a guy near the bus station in Mysore who had guided us about the places to visit in Mysore and also took us to a hotel for a stay for the night on that day. The hotel was called AJ Palace, for which my review is given below.

The package that included the hotel stay, the travel to the above places and a cab for going to these places and a drop to Coorg did cost us Rs. 7500(~110 usd), which I felt was a little overpriced but was okay to avoid the hassle of booking a cab or auto rickshaw to each place.

The first place we went to was the Sand Museum, which I felt was okay to visit and was not very interesting.

Immediatly after that we visited the Guinness Record Shell Art Museum. This was a good place to visit to have a look at art work done using shells and waste material. Some pieces of the art were actually impressive to look at.

Then visited the Chamundi hills and there is temple in this place to visit. We did not get enough time to visit the temple, so we went around the temple as the view of the whole Mysore city was visible from here.

Then we had our lunch and visited the Mysore Zoo. The Zoo is really big and has many species of animals in the zoo. It was a nice choice visit the zoo overall.

After the Mysore Zoo, we went to visit the famous Mysore Palace. This is where the Mysore Maharaja still stays with his family and a part of this is left as a tourism spot.
The history of the Mysore Palace can be read in many place on the internet but my view is that this place is a must visit in Mysore and you definitely need a tour guide for this place to know the importance of each and everything and know about the history of the Palace.

There was a little bit of time after we visited the Palace, so we visited the Art gallery at around 4:30 pm. This art gallery had many beautiful paintings by Raja Ravi Varma and other painters. We had to hurry up in the art gallery to be on time to the Brindavan Gardens

So, to conclude overall, the visit to Mysore is mostly to see different things which are not of specialty to that place and can exist in many other places too (like the museums, zoo, art gallery etc.). But the most unique thing is the Mysore palace and is a must visit to look at its royalty and majesty.

The next day, we were on our way to Coorg which was around 100 km in distance and took us around 4-5 hrs as we visited a few place in and around Coorg. I will be putting out another post about Coorg very soon.

Comment down below to ask me anything about any place that I have visited in Mysore. It would be my pleasure to get back to you on it.
