Architectural Photography: Chichen Itza, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World

I just realized I have not submitted anything in the #architecturalphotography contest hosted by @juliank for weeks so let me make up for that with this post about the most famous Mexican landmark, the iconic ancient Mayan site Chichen Itza.
Located in the northern part of the Yucatan Peninsula, Chichen Itza used to be a major pre-Columbian city founded by the old Mayans, probably in the 8th century. It was one of the largest and most important centers of the old Mayan civilization.
With more than 2.6 million visitors annually, Chichen Itza is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Mexico as well as in all Central America. It was also named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
Also known as the Temple of Kukulcan, El Castillo is the dominant and most recognizable feature of the place.
This giant Mesoamerican step-pyramid is 30 m (98 ft) high and it has a total of 365 steps - one for each day of the year.
There are several serpent sculptures at Chichen Itza. They represent Kukulcan, a snake deity from the ancient Mayan mythology.
The Temple of the Warriors. The collumns depict the feared old Mayan warriors.

Kdo ví, co nám poznatky o Májské kultuře ještě přinesou :) Věřím, že to byla daleko vyspělejší civilizace, než si všichni myslí.... a některé chrámy..ehm... no jak bych to řekl... vypadají jak přistávací plocha pro vesmírné lodi :)
To máš pravdu, svého času to byla jedna z nejvyspělejších civilizací na světě... Tou přistávací plochou pro vesmírné lodi asi myslíš Teotihuacan že? :D
Popravdě jsem neměl na mysli žádné konkrétní misto, po svete je spousty starych a prapodivnych mist... nicmene jsem si vygooglil a vidim ze to je taky dost zajimavy 😅
I think in China, the most interesting building is the Great Wall, which is one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

For someone who lives in Latin America and is taught in the history books about the greatness of the Mayan empire, I am still impressed by these images, which besides a great quality and good approaches, remind us a bit of our origins and is something of which , be proud, thank you friend, excellent work as always!
Thank you Jose. Was there any ancient civilization similar to the Mayans or Aztecs in Venezuela too?
Interestingly, in my country there were no such advances as far as civilizations are concerned, in spite of the great variety of tribes and cultures, many that still exist and grow, are more of the nomadic type, so no large settlements or developments were created. architectural as in the case of the great Central American civilizations.
I've been there when you were allowed to climb on them but I am glad they are taking measures to preserve this history. Great shots :)
Wow, really? That must have been very cool :) We only climbed to the top at Coba but it was great too!
That was about 24 years ago. I went back to Mexico a 2nd time in 2008 but went to Tulum that time. I love seeing other Countries history!

Díky moc. Jo, taky jsem si všiml, prý má nějaké problémy s těmi boty, kteří mají ty komenty a upvoty na starosti.
Už jsem si v jednom postu @photocontests přečetl, že by boti měly za 2-3 dny zase fungovat
Tak snad to tak bude :)
