La Sexorcisto: Devil Music Volume I

in #metal6 years ago (edited)

White Zombie was really something else when they released this album back in the 90's. They got a few songs on the radio back when that sort of this was important, but this album (perhaps due in part to the fact that it was produced beautifully) really made an impact.

It was right around the time of Nirvana, and perhaps Nirvana is part of the reason why the industry was open to bands like White Zombie. Who knows? This music was a bit too hard for mainstream, but to be fair so was "Smells like Teen Spirit" now, wasn't it.

i had a thing for the bass player, long before i was one

Not many people know this, but White Zombie actually was a band before this album. They just hadn't found a way to engage a major audience (again, it might be because of Nirvana.) I honestly don't remember how I first became aware of them. It was probably just a pal who had the CD already.

There is something about WZ's use of various microphone effects, with a sweet groove, combined with audio clips from various films (many of them Japanese anime movies) that really just made them something that the world had never heard before. I hadn't heard anything like them before but it also helped that the mixing on this album was absolutely perfect.

If you were alive in the 90's you knew this band if you followed music, even if you didn't like them. In my mind "Black Sunshine" was the best song on this album (feel free to disagree.) However, they never made a video for that so instead I have decided to feature the song that probably put them on the map..... "Thunder Kiss 65"

this is one of my least favorite songs on the album but this is probably just because it was played the most

White Zombie went on to make a few more albums and Rob Zombie carried on to be a director of movies I have never seen. If you are a fan of those films and want to recommend one to me, please do so.

As always I welcome your comments / criticism and if you find a problem with my spelling or grammer i will award additional upvote!

Sweeten the ride back sunshine, sweeten the ride yeah (A Rob Zombie Yeah)... Loved this album when I was younger.

My interest on the music from childhood. Still listening to the songs of the work

White Zombie's heard many songs but new album songs have not been heard yet @gooddream

The overall sound behind White Zombie can be described as "controlled chaos". From the dizzying guitar of Jay Noel Yuenger to the grinding basslines and heavy drumming, White Zombie's sound is impressively unique amongst its competition. The mindnumbing riffs behind "Thunderkiss '65" and "Black Sunshine" still hold their places in rock history today. In fact, J's guitar solos on "Cosmic Monsters" and "I Am Legend" are equally impressive, yet all too forgotten. While Rob may be the obvious celebrity of the band, J., Sean Ysuelt, and John Tempesta hold up admirably with their respective instruments.

Lead singer and best known band member Rob Zombie Although it is unclear what Rob Zombie is really talking about on songs such as "Thunderkiss '65" and "Soul Crusher", the lyrics are inescapable and incredibly catchy compared to most of the metal artists of the '90s. Rob is harldy a lyrical genius, as his subject matter is relatively the same on every track, basically, zombies, sex, cars, and an overall "concept" for the album (sin). Still, the hooks qualities he produces are remarkable, and the album is a very rewarding listen because of it.

Sadly, the group lasted just eight years and produced only two significant albums (this being one of them). However, that was enough time to cement these guys into the minds of many metal heads all over the world, as well as to influence numerous metal artists today. This riff heavy headbanger of an album will go down in history as one of the most influencial metal albums of the early '90s.

3 albums, and some remixalbums, before this one, there was an EP.

I don't like their horror types of music, probably my personal opinion.

Check out the following movies directed by Ron Zomby: Halloween and the devil rejects if you are a lover of horror movies... Hahaha

You make things so difficult for me this time around, I don't know how many times you did the editing, but it's just too perfect.... Hahahah
How I wish to spot just one for high upvote... Smile

great music live the rock. YEAH

House of 1000 corpses and it's sequel The Devils Rejects I really liked, just creepy and strange as fuck movies.. Favourite track from Sexorcisto,..whoah great record man! Used to listen to this when I first started skateboarding, would have this blasting in the walkman. Favourite song was soul crusher, just a slower grinding song and always loved the guiatar on this song i guess. 🤘
