Is Mercedes getting it?

It shows the new S-Class, with a big touch screen and almost no buttons.
Finally. They are learning from Tesla and Apple. The purpose of a touch screen is the replace buttons, to use the space more dynamically.
Currently in any German car you basically have a screen with one function. If you want to tune the radio, your navigation goes away, etc. This is why we need many buttons that spoil the most important spaces in the car.
When I stepped into a Tesla 5 years ago, I immediately noticed that the car itself was no worth its price compared to a German car, but at the same time after operating the screen, you want to go back to any of the German UI like you want to use a flip-phone after having an iPhone. This is still true today.
10 years too late the Germans finally learn.
Tesla is still many years ahead, with the key features, such as battery, self-driving capabilities and the user interface, but at least this shows that they are getting it.

I have been thinking exactly the same, a big touchscreen is just so much better. You can customize your dashboard how you want and they can later add new features to the car.
