HF-19 - Before And After Meme
It's not difficult to explain the massive drop in upvotes that the average user receives after HF-19, but who can explain the significant decrease in viewership? We have a lot more people on Steemit now,so surely the number of page views should be rising as the community gets larger?
More people equals more content, good or bad. Some just upload random pics, one every ten minutes...suffocating feeds...which means less time to check out real content, which is sad.
Yeah I was thinking something very similar. They need to find a way to better present the posts of our followers to us, because I gave up on trying to keep up with my home feed a long time ago. That, or extend the lifetime of the posts in some way, because while the payout period may last for 7 days, unless your post is trending, it's really only visible for a day or so.
It's such a simple thing they can do to make it a little bit easier I think. When you check your Home feed currently, as soon as you click a tag, you're transported to the Hot feed of that tag. I would love to sort my Home feed by tag! Besides that, do what Busy does, give the option to filter out Resteems. I've had to unfollow quite a few people, because they simply resteemed too much.
I like the sound of those ideas a lot. Communities are allegedly arriving this year too, which I imagine will help people find the content that best suits them, and will help authors have their work seen by more of the types who would be interested in it. That is... If they implement it correctly.
Yeah, I keep hearing about communities! I'm still not sure how they should work. I guess I've been too lazy to research, though I'm not sure others know either. Could be good though, if we can join multiple communities for all of our interests!
Well I'm not sure how they are going to do it, but I imagine that when you go the "new" tab or any other, whilst in a community, it would only show posts from that one.
So, if you're in an art and design community, you could look at the new page without having to see a bunch of random and, to be frank, stupid shit. With the implementation of the right kind of communities, and perhaps with the ability to create your own, this could be an excellent way to bring like-minded people together.
I just hope there will still be an easy way to go from community to community because I don't think its healthy always being around people who agree with you.
And yes, your idea at the end. If we could have a "new" feed that shows us only things from the communities we are a part of, or one of them at a time singularly.
Yeah, I like your ideas! I am worried though that if you're free to make your own community (or as many as you'd like), we'll simply have a shit load of communities centered around one and the same subject. Though I guess that should be how it works, because hey, who says I want to join a 'photography' community, when I'm only interested in 'landscape photography' and 'macro photography', while others might like 'nude photography'. I would also not like 'sports gaming', but I would love to join 'rpg gaming', etc.
Yes. I can not easily see what the people I follow have posted. And I am lazy. Sad but true. Thank you and take care.
True for me too. You're not alone there.
I completely agree on your explanation here. The New feed is overly full and being flooded by all sorts of content. Most of which I care little about. For me, this means I hardly check it out anymore and mainly stick to the posts of the people I follow.
I also noticed a strange situation for me. It lies in the fact that the number of subscribers is growing every day. But who are these people? I haven't seen them either in the comments on my humble posts, and the number of views is also not changed. For me it is a mystery.
Yes I have noticed that since returning too. I now have over 1000 followers, but it feels like I have way less. I mean, it's very rare to get over as little as 25 upvotes now. Perhaps it is just people who are following hoping that you follow back, but have no interest in actually looking at your work. That's the best theory I have at the moment.
Some of my followers aren't even active. From time to time I do check for blogs that might be interesting among the new followers and it says "this user hasn't started blogging yet". Literally, there is no activity on some accounts.
That's particularly odd. Unless.. do they have a ton of comments? Perhaps they are just spam bots created by one or a few of the devs here on Steemit.
If you see one like this again, go to their posted comments and see if it looks like it is simply cycling through templates. If so, the whole account was probably created, and is run automatically.
If this isn't the case, then I am at a loss of imagination at the moment to think of why people would be making an account and following people, but never posting or commenting.
Perhaps that is so. I also assume this development. But I sincerely say that I tried to go to other blogs where the authors offered me his vote in exchange for mine. Of course I'm not a great writer and my little stories too, not all interesting. I understand all that. But !!! When I go and see just a picture from the Internet, or a photo where the person didn't even bother to write any comment or text just ripped off from the Internet, not bothering to tell in their own words.......Tell me, @son-of-satire , for it is possible to vote? I can't!
Yes, it's possible. And it's why they do it. But, I wouldn't vote on something like that, and I am glad that you wouldn't either. The more people vote for this type of shit, the more people will do it. If we all stop voting for it, then no one will do it anymore because it will be a waste of time.
Since I was a minnow before hard Fork 19 and I'm still a minnow now...... I would actually say that my readership has probably gone up just a little bit, however, not nearly as much as it would have if things hadn't gotten weird with all this strife and with all of the spammers. Also I think I was making right around 7 to $8 per post before hard Fork 19 and it briefly went up to about $40 per post before dropping down to about 2 to $3 per post. So in reality I was making more before the hard Fork except for the brief spike. I really would love for the rewards pool to be able to pay out forever but I do hope the money eventually goes back up and their readership goes up for everyone as well.

Could it be that many of the new accounts are not actually investing time in reading or producing or engaging with good content? Or maybe the good posts are drowned out in a sea of spam and junk mail? Or maybe a combo of the two?
I think it's a combination of those two, and the possibility that many people have left because of those two reasons. So those who would normally view your work, may not be around to do so anymore.
We all have an objective that is to make money. But for some that has become the only objective after the HF19.
I like how you worded that. And yes.............. Shit man. You just made me think of a theory on what the fuck is really going on.
Haha! Upvote me to get upvote and follow me and I follow back. These are becoming the most used words in the platform. I joined in January 2017 it wasn't the case that time. I'm scared whether I'm also becoming like this or not. I posted about a concept of a steemitit anthem with the message of global unity a few days back and I got a very few audience and I myself posted photos of minions and flowers after that 😐
Just don't ever ask a person to follow you, unless it's on your own post.. Not comments. And, don;t ever post links on someone else's post unless they asked you too, or unless it is EXTREMELY relevant to the post.
If you don't do those things, then you're not one of the spammers that are murdering this platform.
I strictly restrict myself from doing these
Asking this out of context , yet any idea when notifications will start to work again
Oh, you're asking the wrong person there, mate. I don't know fuck all about what's going on. Mine haven't been working in a long time either, but I thought it was just because I bought a new PC and set it up wrong.
You're better off asking someone with a bit of developer knowledge, or at least someone who actively follows what the Steemit team is up to, because I do not anymore.
I've noticed the decrease in upvotes too but I thought it was just me. I guess everyone is feeling the burn
