Harsh Reality for Newbies on Steemit!! Let's get serious!!
So i'm approaching a 100 followers within my first week on steemit. But I noticed, i'm not getting any real communication from my followers.
I know most of my followers are newbies like me with very low steem power and our upvotes doesn't really count for much. But guys, I don't really care about the money. Your upvote might give me $0, but i don't care. it's the appreciation that counts!! It's your kind words in the comments or your constructed criticism that matters to me.
Let's forget about the money for now dear followers, and let's get to know each other first. Instead of treating steemit like an earning platform, let's first treat it just like any other social media and let's make new friends first.
I know I had taken the much "popular" Follow me-follow you path the first few days which now I realize was a mistake. So guys, whoever followed me just because I followed you, but don't really like my content, I hereby allow you to unfollow me. I will NOT unfollow you in return if i enjoy your content.
I only want followers who will actually connect with me and people i'll enjoy communicating with!!
Here's to making long lasting, MEANINGFUL friendships!! Let's have a laugh, shall we?

PEACE!!
I agree. It's very tough for newbies. I'm still learning and I have good days and bad days. I have fun here, and then I look at the earnings afterwards, otherwise it can be discouraging sometimes.
Yes exactly. To be honest it's quite unrealistic to expect to start making significant earnings right after joining. If we look at the people who are actually making a good earning we'll see that they have been around for almost a year or more and put in a lot of hard work!!
So it's like climbing a ladder. If we try to skip steps to reach the top, there's always a high chance we'll fall!! So let's take it one step at a time and let's see where time leads us to :)
Cheers!!
Totally agree with this as a newb. I have a ton of disinterested followers. I see the same people voting and commenting all the time. I'm super grateful for them. They keep me going. I took a similar point of view in my last post where I talked about doing exactly what you suggested in this post. Lol, kind of coincidental really. Check it out if you have time.

Very interesting read!! I hope you all the best with your photography!! I myself like clicking a few pics here and there....just casually...nothing professional or anything!! Surely nowhere as good as your snaps haha!!
You are too kind! I'm hoping to start writing a bit more, but I'm sure I will have new pictures soon. Right now most of my pictures are of my beautiful 1 year old daughter. I will not post her to the site though. Sucks, because I would love to. I just don't think it would be right of me.
Yes i agree, I'm more interested in posting pictures of nature and food!!
you nailed it. provide value first and the rewards will follow.
Thanks man, appreciate your input!!
Cheers!!
You're totally right on what you said. Money or fame are not everything in the world. Communication and forming bonds should be more important to people on both the net and the offline world. And if you can have that by making entertaining posts, it should be better for you. It's way better actually. At least on the spiritual level.
Really cool post!

Thanks vancry!! Really appreciate the kind words!!

When money is at play it's obviously always going to affect people to some extent, it's going to change the dynamic, That's not necessarily a bad thing its just how it is but it is something to note.
I agree with you though, while I do like earning money, if I put up a post I like to see upvotes even if they don't equate to money and I like to see comments even if the commentor doesn't upvote. I just like to know that I'm not creating content that nobody is viewing and I enjoy hearing something I created either helped or entertained someone.
I do however think a large portion of Steemians interact for the reciprical interaction and or to get on someones radar. You can tell this by the one or two word comments like nice post or the vague comments that show the person didn't really take in teh content and just wanted to post something.
I was getting a little frustrated with my lack of progress on here and then all the sudden interaction, comments, money all started comming a bit more, its kind of reinvigorated me.
Yes you spoke my mind!! It's extremely frustrating when you have put in time and effort to create something good and you don't even know if people liked it or worse, whether people even saw it!!
Btw, would love to get some suggestions and tips if you have any to make progress as a beginner here!!
Cheers!!
That is the right approach to take.
Thanks man. I wish i had taken this approach from day 1, but i guess it's never too late to learn from mistakes :)
P.S. Your blog contents look amazing!!
Cheers!!
Thanks you so much
Excellent reminder. It's easy for new users to get caught up in the rewards and forget about the primary goal of this platform: to create quality content. That should come first.
Yes. If we provide quality content, and we have a bit of luck on our side, everything else will fall into place!!

Agreed, I'm interested in crypto for more than the money. The chance to make a quick buck will bring people to crypto, but I know the special use cases of block chains like Steem will make people stick around.
Yes, true. I think investing the time into learning about crypto will go a far way in the future. Cryptocurrencies have proved they are here to stay!!
