Random Monday's: Our 2nd Steemit Meet-Up | With @travellit, @veganroma, @jeabsywanvisa and @dronemania
Hello Steemian friends,
Yes, it's been a while since our last post and yes, it's Tuesday in most parts of the world now, so why Random Monday's? Well, this post was meant to come out yesterday, but since we were travelling back from Chiang Mai and didn't have the motivation or energy to write, it's written now.
We were in Chiang Mai and the surrounding areas for five days, four nights to celebrate Songkran (Thai New Year). There will be future posts about our trip up from Bangkok by sleeper train and our time spent at an elephant sanctuary. All in due course as we're not full time bloggers, unfortunately our work and study comes first. However, we wanted to write this post as this was one of our highlights during our short stay in Chiang Mai. We met (Sam for the second time) Steemians in real life!!! (enter shock face here) What?! There is actually someone behind that Steemit/DTube username and not a robot. We're just kidding! We've met inspiring people on this platform and we know there are many real accounts, but equally there are many fake ones too.
As we mentioned, this wasn't our first meet-up. Our first ever Steemit meet-up was a few weeks ago when Sam met @waybeyondpadthai to discuss establishing our Discord server for anyone who is a 'Wanderluster in Thailand'. This time, the meet-up was special as a) the full team was present (Becca was there too), b) we were meeting not one, but five new Steemians and c) this Steemit meet-up was in a new city for us (okay, Sam has been to Chiang Mai before, but ages ago).
The Steemit Meet-Up
Engaging through our Discord server, the meet-up was set into motion. We were going to meet @veganroma and @travellit at 18:00 on Sunday 15th of April at this restaurant in Chiang Mai called 'The Salad Concept'. This restaurant was chosen to ensure everyone would be catered for as we have different Steemians have different dietary requirements and lifestyles. The Salad Concept could accommodate all of us.
We cut it quite tight as we spent two nights at an elephant sanctuary up in the mountains about an hour and a half way from Chiang Mai. We knew earlier that day at breakfast that our transfer back was organised for a 15:00 pick-up. Luckily, the driver came slightly earlier and we had enough time to make it to our hotel to check-in before heading out to The Salad Concept, which was on the other side of town for us. Still, we weren't late and as we walked down Nimmarnhemin Road Soi 13, we spotted two familiar faces. Okay, how can they be familiar if you haven't met them in real life? Yet, we had a sense of feeling that we knew them already. We had seen many of their vlogs prior to this stage. The feeling was similar to meeting an old friend that you have been talking to on Skype, Whatsapp or Facebook for the past few months and you finally get to see them again. Of course, we're talking about the two lovely Latvians known commonly to the Steemit/DTube world as @travellit. Both are down-to-earth and friendly and we were chatting straight away as soon as we found a table inside The Salad Concept. When you meet like-minded people there's no shortage of topics or conversations to talk about. Yes, we mainly focused on Steemit and DTube about the good, the bad and the ugly side of the platform. However, our passion for travelling, seeking new experiences and cameras came into play. Unfortunately, we did not bring our camera out to the restaurant as it was Songkran and you are guaranteed to get wet and that includes anything on you. Everyone else risked it and brought their cameras in heavily protected gear...trash bags and plastic bags. Why not? It does the job.
@veganroma and his girlfirend @jeabsywanvisa told us that they would be late and stated that they were bring a noob on the Steemit platform too. When they showed up, Roma brought his friend Guy who is known to the Steemit community as @dronemania. This is also his YouTube name, where he reviews and tests out different types of drones. On Steemit, he is vlogging his daily experiences for the fun of it and learning on the go how to be a better content creator just like @veganroma. According to Guy, Roma keeps on influencing and motivating him that they ended up (somehow) with the same camera gear.
As we ordered and ate our healthy salads and vegan pizza, the conversation about Steemit, vlogging, camera gear, durian and drones (sounds like a good username) flew by. We couldn't believe it that 3 hours had passed when it seemed like an hour or two at most! There was so much to talk about and such little time.
As the night came to an end, there is always time for a quick group photo. It was such a pleasure meeting @travellit, @veganroma, @jeabsywanvisa and @dronemania. We would and want to encourage others to organise meet-ups and engage with Steemians in real life. We plan to have another meet-up later this week in Bangkok with @waybeyondpadthai and @travellit. What a lovely meet up! I was jumping from one island to another, I couldn't create some time for this kind of activity but I regret it... So now it is nice to read it from here..:)
Don't worry @vovidi. It seems like you had a lovely time exploring Thailand and Cambodia and had a lot on your schedule. We weren't sure this meet-up was happening until 2 days before, although we planned it a few weeks back. We encourage you to either have meet-ups in our home country of Turkey or when you travel abroad again. :)

Hello my friend! It's been a while since the last post. I've missed your writing already. Just checked it out this morning and I found this.
Seems you've some new friends out there. That's why on my first month Anniversary on this platform which is yesterday I wrote an article that Steemit is the place to build a community and family. These are all based on my short time observation as a new comer during here. Reading others post and conclude it in my own style.
Anyway, it was a great meet-up full of fun. You have healthy dishes choice.

Thanks Dan! Yes, it was such a great experience and we just did our third one yesterday. Three current Steemians and three new Steemit members came along. The post was meant to come out for Featured on Friday's, but editing the video is taking some time due to the file sizes of each clip! It will be out later today. If we want to move into doing more videos, we need to know how to speed these things up!
