Featured on Friday's: Last weekend's Meet-Up in Bangkok
Hello Steemian Friends,
Que Pasa? It's finally Friday therefore, technically speaking and from our point of view....it's the weekend!!!
What's everyone doing this weekend?
We're not up to much compared to last weekend. Sam has some trial observation lessons at Becca's workplace to give teaching a shot as he could do with a part-time job whilst he is still doing his MBA. Those savings are dwindling down quite fast and some extra cash is needed to keep those savings for rainy days. Thailand is not as cheap as it once was and it doesn't help with the currency situation either. Anyway, this is not the point of the post. We just hope you're having a better planned weekend than we are! This post below was actually meant to be written and posted earlier in the week, but other plans got in the way. It's good to know life still has priority over Steemit.
100Degrees Workshop Comes To Bangkok
As we just mentioned, last weekend we had a lot going on. We had some filming done for our 'Sndbox Summer Camp Quest 1' DTube video as well as the main event for the weekend: 100Degrees workshop. The event was run by @maverickfoo who does many of these events in Malaysia, but this was the first time he was branching out of the country! We knew about the event as we follow him and he wrote a post about it about five days prior to the event. This did not give a lot of time to Bangkok based Steemians and non-Steemians to sign up and this showed on the day. Becca could not make it as she was working, but Sam attended the event on behalf of @travelling-two. Yet, even though there were nine of us in total, no matter what the number, there will always be curious attendees asking and engaging with the topic. The topic was 'create content to earn cryptocurrency' through this platform. Although, we have been on Steemit for just over two months, we have not grasped the basics to its fullest. Maverick's workshop covered Steemit right from the start of what Steemit is, how both creators and curators can earn, where the money comes from and importantly how to get started. This event was exactly for that: getting started and convincing new users that Steemit is legit. As Maverick told us, he was skeptical too and he only made one post at the beginning. Once he got the payout, he used his first earned Steem to buy a bowl of ramen and after finishing the meal; that's when it sunk in that this platform has real 'money'. Equally, it was great that the event was split 50/50 with a mixture of Steemians and Steemian-to-be, as the Steemians could help Maverick with his pitch. Did it work? Literally, we had two attendees creating their accounts as the presentation was going on. Whether they engage and start posting is another story, but we can only keep trying and trying to get more people on board.
Overall Experience And The Future
Sam had an amazing time meeting Steemians that he knew by usernames and through their content, but it's great to put a face to a name. Even though he was nervous before going to the event, he instantly felt at ease once he started chatting with Maverick. He would like to thank @maverickfoo for coming out to Bangkok and hosting this event (with Flo - don't know his Steemit username). We also want to wish him all the best with his future endeavors. We know he plans to do a workshop in Hanoi, Vietnam and then hopefully another one in Thailand in April. For us, we hope there will be more meet-ups in the future, so that a) Becca could come and b) we get to meet a few more new Steemians in real life as well as meet old faces!
This fledgling came to our door about ten days ago. We knew of a nest in a tree in our garden, so we reckon this fledgling came from there. It couldn't fly just yet and was chilling at our door. About thirty minutes after these photos were taken, the fledgling was gone. We hope it did manage to fly and makes it in life. The fledgling is more than welcome to come back to our garden to raise its own fledglings.
Stay Classy Steemians!

That's awesome! meeting other steemians in real life. I've heard and seen some people did that and I'd love to as well. Next time totally give me a shout! :D
Thanks for the nice long post that totally deserves an upvote :)
Thank you @waybeyondpadthai it was an absolute treat to go to this meet-up and looking forward to the next one. Yet, we don't need to wait for someone else to come up with an event, we could get one going. If you are interested or doing a collaborative project, let us know 😊
Thanks for the upvote! 😉

hi sam! nice to meet you last week in bangkok during maverick's steemit session. followed you and upvoted too! keep in touch! follow me back @ryanng
although we didnt chat last week, i'm sure there will be plenty of opportunities in future now that i've joined steemit + i travel to bangkok every month.
Hello @ryanng! Welcome to the community! It's great to see you finally signed onto Steemit. Hopefully, you're exploring the platform and getting a feel of things. What are you hoping to blog about? Looking forward to seeing your first post.
Yes, it's a shame we did not talk on the day, however we will have opportunities on here and maybe if there is another meet-up in the future! 😊
✈️👫
i'll probably be blogging about forex and my travels. i've never really blogged before although i've always wanted to. previously i did try for a few weeks but it was troublesome to keep copy and pasting between youtube, facebook, email and blog so i gave up.
pretty sure there will be opportunities in future to meet up. are u staying in bangkok?
Yes, as you heard in Sam's 'tell us what you expect from today' speech last week that we have delayed blogging for two years as we weren't sure about the whole managing a blog (like other social media sites) and getting views etc. On Steemit, we don't have to manage too much about other social media sites unless you want to. The views will come in as you build a following and great content. Finally, on the plus side you get to earn cryptocurrency for whatever the worth is at the time (not so good at the moment). Yet, our suggestion is don't see it too much about the monetary side and just enjoy what it is meant to be a social media platform where you can create content and connect/create communities. We're just concentrating on what we want to write in the areas we are passionate about then this leads to opportunities to connect with like-minded Steemians. There are some negatives, but like with everything in life, you can choose to engage or not.
We'll have a look at your posts as they come - Forex will interest Sam a bit, but we will both be interested in your travels.
Yes, we live in Bangkok now until the foreseeable future, however Sam finishes his MBA at the end of the year, so that could be a point to consider change in scenery. It will be two years in Bangkok at that point, but we shall see. We'll be up for future meet-ups :)
