Should my Child be Meditating?

This overview explains the benefits of meditation for kids and will help to chose if it is something you want to teach your children.

Meditation allows you to have control over your thoughts and feelings, it focuses your mind on one single idea or phrase.

For children, the easiest way to learn to meditate is to listen to their own heartbeat. The art of listening to the heart helps us to understand more about our self.

Does My Child Need Anything Special to Meditate?

Just finding a place somewhere quiet and peaceful where they can be totally relaxed is best. Nothing special is required – they only need themselves!

Will My Child Gain Anything From Meditation? Are There Benefits to Practicing?

Our daily lives offer many unexpected twists and turns. Problems pop up for us as adults, children are no exception to that. It could stem form a bully at school……an upcoming test……even if they will have a date for a dance…….etc

Meditation can present some amazing benefits to help ease the bumps that occur in life.

•Connecting With Their Inner Peace——quieting the mind and allowing the negative to flow away from them.
•Finding Joy and Happiness– inner happiness results from an inner peace that comes from knowing yourself in the best way possible……..to be able to feel confident in your decisions and that they make you happy.
•Helps With Sleep Problems—–sleep issues such as insomnia and hyperness can be eased. Allowing the mind to wind down and calm with meditation after a long day can have a big influence on sleeping. Clearing the daily clutter from the mind allows for a more restful sleep.
• Increases Intuitiveness —– it is possible to become more intuitive as the result of meditation.
•Builds Self-Awareness and Self Confidence——calming the chaos in the mind and focusing more on their desires.
• Becoming Less Affected by Anger and Emotional Outrage (being grounded) ——realizing the effect it has on every life. Creating heightened observational skills and senses. Anger begins to take a back seat.
• Builds Creativity and Inspiration ——it boosts creativity and problem solving abilities as ideas come easily during meditation.

Meditation is not taught and learned overnight. The benefits don’t show immediately, practice, even just a few minutes a day can get one started and bring many positive changes to their life and their ability to learn and problem solve. when teaching your child to meditate, the best thing to do is be a role model and meditate with them as they learn.

I love this! I believe the Dalai Lama is correct. If we taught our children to meditate we could remove a lot of "worldly" problems for them. I am reminded of a song lyric:
"I believe the children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride"
(from Greatest Love of All - Whitney Houston).

I love that song and too believe those words.....if children are given something to be proud of they would be more inclined to be grateful for all they have instead of wishing/wanting more......
Thx Linda for the reminder :-)
