Meditation Basics - Getting Rid Of Anxiety.

Is there a way to focus whem you're overwhelmed with anxiety and issues that need to be solved?

In today's world we are constantly bombarded by stress and anxiety inducing stimuli. Now, as long as everything is more or less familiar we manage to stay focused and in control, but the second something new, overwhelming and extraordinary happens we get thrown off course, panic and can't focus to correctly adress the issue.
This leads to short term stress and anxiety, and long term seriius health issues.

While serving in the army the stress and anxiety I experienced got me chronic health issues like psorasis, hemorrhoids and chronic back pain. The doctors gave me pills, creams and dire news that it's chronic and there is nothing to do. I decided not to give up and discovered a great method that helped me to stop the anxiety and cure my stress related issues, I call it the safe place meditation.

Each and every one of us has a favorite place, somewhere where we feel safe and care free, a place where time flys and we feel can really enjoy with all our senses.
For this place is the beautiful Mediterranean beach of my home town, every time I step my foot there I automatically relax and get laser sharp focus and a crystal clear mind.

For you it can be any place or situation where you feel bliss, joy and saftey, it can be a meadow you played at as a child, your grandmothers house or a beautiful spot in the mountains, the way to recognize a place like that is to close your eyes and visualize that place, what will happen is that you will feel as if a great weight has been lifted from your shoulders and a smile is stretched involuntary across your face.

Once you've got this place in mind, we can ise it to do a simple 2 minute meditation that will clear your mind and get you focused:

  • I will use my beach as an example

Once you start feeling overwhelmed, disconnect from the problem and go to a quite place where you can close your eyes safely.

Take 20 deep and slow breaths focusing on the breath , the inhale and exhale phases need to take a 4 count.
Breathe in for 1...2...3...4...
Breathe out for 1...2...3...4...

After the 20 breaths, start imagining and visualising yourself in your safe place -
Imagine the beautiful beach with golden sand and crystal clear teal water.
Hear the quiet noise of the tiny waves breaking on the shore and the whisper of the breeze in your ears.
Feel the warm sand hugging your feet and the sun gently touching your shoulders.

Create a vivid and bright experience, filled with emotion, recall the way you feel and notice there is no care in the world at this beautiful and magical moment.

Savour this feeling and enjoy your safe place.
Once ypu feel ready open your eyes and think about a plan to solve the problem at hand.
You will notice, you are calm, focused and the solution comes to mind effortlessly.
