Here again, do we really need someone to give us permission to say our work is good enough?

i have been working with this question lately. related to claiming who i say i am. do i really need someone outside of me to affirm that i am who i am, that i can do the thing that i want to do? is it based on outside approval? my art? my contribution? my creativity?
