Fresh Celery Juice - Medicinal Cooking Collective Challenge - Drink This to Eat That
This is my entry to the second week of the medicinal cooking collective challenge. This week we are focusing on the "Wood" Element, which is good for the liver and the gallbladder. According to Chinese medicine, you should consume "green" food to help improve the liver and gallbladder.
Our liver is responsible for flushing toxins out of the body. It is working hard everyday to keep us balanced. The liver is like a processing center. One of the responsibilities of our liver is to neutralize anything harmful that enters it. We encounter all kinds of toxins in our daily lives from pesticides, pharmaceutical drugs, heavy metals, viruses, chlorine, and even plastic. Our liver must work hard to convert all the unsafe toxins we encounter into something that the body can eliminate. The liver stores toxins if it can not effectively eliminate them. After a while, our liver can get clogged and become stagnant.
When your liver is sluggish, it does a poor job of flushing toxins out of your system. The liver's sluggish performance can lead to the lowering of your stomach's hydrochloric acid and create toxicity in your intestinal tract. This in turn can result in some food not being fully digested and lead to it putrefying in the intestinal tract. So to address liver health, we also must address gut health.
Knowledge is Power When It Comes to Healing
I am a big believer in plant powers. I believe in the healing powers of raw fruits & vegetables. Kale helps to gently cleanse the liver. Spinach is incredible for the liver and gallbladder. However, the superstar here is celery.
After reading the book Medical Medium: Secrets Behind Chronic and Mystery Illness and How to Finally Heal. I learned that
Celery is one of the most powerful anti-inflammatory foods, because it starves unproductive bacteria, yeast, mold, fungus, and viruses that are present in the body and flushes their toxins and debris out of the intestinal tract and liver.
Celery juice is most powerful when you drink it solo. While it’s great to consume other green juices or vegetables juices and add in items like spinach, kale, parsley, cilantro, or apples, drink those mixed juices at a different time than your straight celery juice. These blends function differently than what I’m recommending as your greatest tool for recovering your health: pure celery juice taken on an empty stomach. If you drink your celery juice first thing in the morning, it will also strengthen your digestion of foods you eat for the rest of the day.

My cat Tiger likes to watch me drink celery juice every morning
16 oz of Pure Celery Juice on an Empty Stomach, First Thing in the Morning
My husband used to have terrible digestive issues. The majority of fresh vegetables and fruits would bother his stomach, usually resulting in serious bloating and cramps. He literally couldn't eat one leaf of basil without getting a bad case of acid reflux. A bite of sweet melon would give him almost instant pain in the tummy. He was forced to eliminate so many important, good for you foods because they caused him so much discomfort. Since it seemed there was no natural way to relieve his symptoms, eliminating the problem foods was really the only answer. That is until I told him about the power of pure celery juice and how it helps rebuild hydrochloric acid in the gut.
The first step in addressing virtually any gut health issue is to rebuild your stomach's supply of hydrochloric acid and strengthen your digestive system.
First thing we changed in our daily routine was to stop drinking coffee in the morning. Let me add to that, we stopped drinking coffee entirely. It was immediately replaced with 16 oz of freshly juiced, pure celery juice on an empty stomach. Sure, after years of programing our bodies to be ready for that rocket blast of caffeine, it was not the easiest thing to just stop. However, the promise of eating real food without the discomfort of a gassy stomach, made the elimination of coffee easier. And now, as soon as we wake, our bodies are being reprogrammed. But this time, it's with nutrients that will help build and replace the parts of us that have been misused and unfortunately abused. And celery juice does give quite the boost of energy to get you ready for your day.
My husband can now eat 10-20 fresh basil leaves with his salads or sandwiches with no gas or acid reflux. I remember watching him eat one spoonful of watermelon in the past and bloating up within a few minutes. He can now eat any kind of organic melon with rarely a problematic interaction occurring. I can honestly say it is the most dramatic change I have ever seen in what one could not eat to what one can. He wasn't even able to eat a banana before, now eats 2-3 a day.
16 oz of pure celery juice on an empty stomach first thing in the morning is one of the most profound ways of restoring digestive health and cleanse the liver. Pure celery juice is one of the greatest healing tonics of all time.
Do not be derailed by the simplicity of pure celery juice. This works because celery contains unique sodium compositions and these mineral salts are bonded with many bioactive trace minerals and nutrients. And overtime, the mineral salts, minerals, and nutrients have the ability to completely restore your stomach's hydrochloric acid.
Here is How to Do It
- Wash one bunch of organic celery in the morning before you consume anything while your stomach is still empty. (Anything else in your stomach will disrupt the effect of celery juice)
- Juice the organic celery.
- Drink the fresh celery juice immediately before it can oxidize.
(Wait 15 minutes before you eat or drink anything else)
I know my submission is a bit unusual. To me, the best medicine are plants in their purest form. We have been doing this every morning for the last nine months and have personally experienced the amazing healing power of pure celery juice. I hope you will consider giving it a try.
oh wow.. i had no idea celery could be so useful with bloating and digestive healing.. Good to know.. im defo not a fan of celery but i may be able to stomach it juiced and knock it back! worth a try as I too am very bloated these days and cant seem to reverse it..
great medicinal entry!!
Isn't it so expansive to learn these little golden nuggets? I hope the coffee/ celery juice swap works well for you!
hey WHO said anything about swapping coffee?! ;-)))
I thought that was a key part of the change @thelaundrylady was suggesting!! Haha, swap coffee for celery juice! Let me know how it goes!
Haha @yogajill, let's not push @eco-alex :-)
Oh man! No pushing here!!! 😂 I just assumed it was a pkg deal! I have found that i have stopped the morning coffee lately. But, i do crave it come afternoons often. I give in ocassionally for sweetened creamy iced coffee..... i am not one to judge 🤣 if i can at all help it. BTW thanks to you @thelaundrylady i had watermelon for supper! Mmmm, melons! I found myself daydreaming of volunteer melons growing in my food forest in the middle of the prairies in Canada. Whil in line to by my 4 watermelon slices for $3.19. Hahaha, I don't even know if that's possible. Haha They're super tasty and satisfying 🍉 🍉🍉
My husband had a lot of trouble at first getting rid of coffee. He got rid of morning coffee, but was still drinking a cup of coffee here and there in the afternoon for a little while. However, the more his body healed, the more it showed him the damage coffee was doing. One day he finally said to me "coffee is bad" and stop drinking it all together. I don't push people to stop drinking coffee. I just tell people to start include healing foods in the diet. The amazing thing is your body will show you what you need to get rid of naturally. This is how we finally get rid of coffee in our diets. I used to drink several cups of black coffee a day.
I have eaten just melons for dinner many times when I have a large harvest. It is exactly like getting intravenous nutrient therapy!
Glad to hear you are dreaming about melons growing wild. I don't know if it can happen either, but hey without a dream, nothing can happen right.
haha yes.. but i was only intending to drink some celery juice.. hopefully that will do the trick without the coffee drop... ;-) im a responsible coffee drinker also.. one small black bitter shot in the morning, thats it ..
I hope you get the results you're looking for <3
Ha, so you are one of those people who do not like celery. My brother in law is also like that. He couldn't stomach the smell of my celery juice and he wasn't even the one drinking it, lol.
I promise you if you experience any gut issue, 16oz pure celery juice on an empty stomach will do miracles for your condition. I have shared this with many friends with similar issues and the ones willing to try are still drinking it daily after a few months.
I used to be addicted to coffee and would be ready to go to war with anyone telling me to stop drinking it. I can totally relate to how you feel about coffee :-) . Small steps will get you there.
I knew celery was awesome, but not this awesome!! I love love love this story because it really had such an impact on your husband's life! I love that it's food in it's pure form rather than 'cooking' as such, as you've done such a gorgeous job of this post! Love your work!
I'm off to juice some celery.... xx
Plants truly are a powerhouse of healing! Your body probably claps hands every morning
I do feel like I am giving my body a shot of nutrients every morning. My body loves it :)
Awesome post, I am also pretty inspired by the content from Medical Medium - this book was truly an eye-opener when it comes to many health conditions.
It sounds so cool how you guys transformed your habits around diet - nutrient dense food can do so much good for our bodies.
I'd love to adopt the morning celery juice one day, right now I am in lack of a juicer and organic celery is often not available. But I will get there and then get the full benefits of this miraculous veggie 👍
Thank you. You are the first one on Steemit to tell me you have also read the book by the Medical Medium. The info it contains truly is eye opening.
I was diagnosed with Lyme disease last year. I did not believe the doctor, so I put myself on the 28 day cleanse and within days, the health issues I was dealing with were much better. I was almost completely healed after the cleanse, so now I still eat mostly raw fruit during the day and only eat cooked food at night. It's amazing to find out fruit is not bad for you and your body needs fruit to heal. I have been gorging on fresh fruit ever since.
I hope you get to include celery juice as your daily routine one day. I view it as a miracle tonic for all kinds of illnesses. I am grateful to have come across this info :)
Wow, that is an impressive story - what kind of cleanse did you do? Have you been to your doctor afterwards and what did he/she say about your improvement?
That sounds like a great balance that you have found now. It is kind of sad what bad reputation fruits have - many people fear them and dive into a fatty burger at the same time, crazy world we live in. But fortunately this started to change and people get to know their powerful healing effects more and more 💚
Yes, totally agree with what you are saying 100%. I followed the 28 day cleanse on the Medical Medium's first book. It's like a reset for the body.
I have not gone back to the doctor yet. He told me my body was attacking itself. Have been dreaming about going back to show him he knows nothing even after going to medical school for so long.
I love what you are sharing on Steemit! So many wonderful raw vegan recipes. The intro on your page: Raw foodie | Health enthusiast | Minimalist | Freedom seeker... you are exactly the kind of person I am looking for on Steemit. I just put you on my Steemauto fan base, so I will not miss upvoting your posts anymore. Thank you for stopping by!
Nice, I am on a healing journey myself lately, getting rid of all the bad decisions from my past - before I became so passionate about healthy eating and a sustainable lifestyle.
My boyfriend healed a skin condition with a plant based diet and a proper cleanse, which his doctor said to be incurable. After he returned to the doctor, he just responded that this has to be a special case and the diet can not have anything to do with it 🙈
Aww, thank you so much, that means a lot to me 💚
I too healed the skin condition I had and the subsequent Topical Steroid Withdrawal with a plant based diet and a raw cleanse. I truly believe when your body is healing, it heals from the inside out. Our body can heal itself as long as we provide the right nourishment. Thank you for sharing your boyfriend's story. This is awesome!
Wow, that is amazing - nature is just the best, I learned so much about it recently and every new information about its healing effects makes me what to scream it out into the world. Unfortunately not everybody is ready to hear and use this knowledge, not yet anyway 😉
Very cool entry! It's wonderful you've had personal positive experience with celery juice! I am so happy to hear this. The power of plants is inspiring. Good luck in the contest!
Thank you :)
I try to tell anyone who will listen about the experiences my husband and I have. When you finally heal yourselves with plants, you just want to shout out loud, so anyone who is still suffering can get better as well.
Love this, and love celery! I totally agree with you on this. I too have felt the amazing value of vegetable juices each morning. (And eliminating coffee! Horrible for your stomach) Great post!
Love finding out we can heal ourselves with plants! How awesome is that. I didn't realize what coffee was doing to me until I got rid of it. I used to get mad at anyone trying to tell me to stop drinking my coffee. I was ready to go to war with them, lol.
So glad to hear you too have experienced the amazing powers of vegetable juices in the morning.
Plants are amazing! I have to admit though, celery is one of those veggies I really do not care for. Never tried juicing it alone, but I have juiced it among other veggies. Thanks for sharing the benefits of celery! Good luck in your contest!
I know some people really hate the strong smell/taste of celery. I have a brother in law that will leave the room if he can smell celery, lol. Thank you so much for responding to me on discord. Wish I were a mother :(
That's how celery if for me, haha!
So sorry about that. I didnt make the rules. There have been a couple other wonderful ladies who wanted to join, but the mod mamas said nope, it has to be mothers only... If it were up to me, I'd be bending rules willy-nilly...
Oh no problem. I totally understand. I should have paid more attention to the name of the group, then I wouldn't have made an ass out of myself, haha. Totally my fault :-)
This is so amazing! Thank you!! My dad is having a lot of digestive issues and I am going to tell them to try celery juice. Nothing else is working for him.
I am growing celery for the first time this year and was wondering what I might do with it all - will have to juice some and freeze it so we have juice on hand. It won't be as good from frozen but heck ..better than nothing right?
If he can, purchase organic celery and juice them every morning. Consume the juice right away and wait 15 minutes before eating or drinking anything else. Do this for a month and he will be surprised with the result. Most people have low hydrochloric acid and that's the reason for digestive issues. Pure celery juice will help your body rebuild hydrochloric acid naturally. I didn't believe it could be that simple, but after seeing my husband and some friends with similar issues improve so dramatically, I truly view it as a miracle.
Very cool, thank you. I have celery growing here and a juicer so I will start him on it when they visit and see how it goes. He might do it or he might just wrinkle his nose at the idea. My parents are not as open minded about trying new things (or listening to me) as I wish they were but I keep trying.
Great info and very helpful. Thanks for share! I'm not sure that I'll drop the morning coffee but I think I can drink it after the celery juice, just like your husband did at the beginning. Let's see how far it drives me. Thanks for the info!
Happy to share our experiences. My husband didn't drink coffee in the morning after celery juice even in the beginning. He drank 1 cup of coffee around 4 or 5 pm a couple of times a week when he crashed and that only lasted about three weeks. He stopped drinking coffee completely after the initial few weeks of transitioning to the new routine.
This is the Medical Medium on coffee:
If you are dealing with some health issues or gut discomfort, I would recommend stop drinking coffee in the morning, so you can give your body the best chance to heal. Take small steps so you are not overwhelmed.
