How much $$ is your doctor getting from the drug & device companies?

in #medical6 years ago

The drug companies are required to disclose who is getting their promotional dollars. Same goes for the medical device manufacturers.

But how much is your doctor getting?

You can search for a specific doctor or hospital to see how much money they’re getting from these companies. The search site is called Dollars for Docs.

Drug cartel?

New York University Bioethics Head Arthur Caplan said, “There’s enough money going around that if you saw this in the abstract, you’d think there was a drug cartel happening.”

That is absolutely the most important question every person needs to ask at every juncture of their health journey that involves following a doctor's advice.

Thanks for gathering together all this information on such a critical topic, Gary.

Over a decade ago I heard someone say that doctors would mainly be used to diagnose health challenges in a few short decades.

It's already happening. As the money relationship between doctors and drug companies becomes accepted mainstream knowledge, it will only speed up. Upvoted, resteemed and will FB/tweet.

Good to see your comment, @angelacs

I'm a bit of a collector of statements about the medical profession. One immediately comes to mind, the gist of which is -- whatever you do, dont go to a doctor/hospital.

And that statement was made by an American doctor! Dr. Carolyn Dean.

She is one of several who point out that conventionally trained doctors have 3 main tools in their toolkit: BURN, CUT, POISON.

Amazing... even more so coming from a doctor. Bless her for her outspokenness!

conventionally trained doctors have 3 main tools in their toolkit: BURN, CUT, POISON.

That's why I respect Dr. Deepak Chopra so much. Back when it was very frowned upon to do so, he led the way in combining western conventional medicine with eastern traditional ayurvedic medicine.

I can't wait for that blending of the best of all medicine, conventional, traditional and otherwise to become mainstream worldwide. The first step, as is usually the case, is getting big money out of running the show.

Er have same problem in Norway. But luckily we have a national team that automaticly check doctors medicine outgive. When something is wrong each state has a over-doctor who can check manually if something smells fishy.

I didnt know that, so thanks for sharing it. Sounds like a good system.

Upvoted you.
Gary

Yes it is. Er have there different glasses of medicine. Strong addicting medicine is glass a and b.

If someone get theese medicine over å periode longer than 3/6 months this over-doctor has to check if it is necessary and look at the case.

If a doktor prescribe alot of cladd a and b the doktor can loose his og hers license.

So they are pretty good here And know alot og about addiction and trying to help people.

Interesting, thanks for that.

Doctor provide band aids not cures. Take this pill, oh and you need this pill for the side effects of that pill and so on. We need a war on pharmaceutical drugs not the recreational drugs.

We need a war on pharmaceutical drugs not the recreational drugs.

We need a war on pharmaceutical drugs as well as a war on recreational drugs.
Agree?

The pharmaceutical drugs in my mind have over taken the “traditional” recreational drugs. What I am implying is let’s go after the drug dealers in white coats. Turn our focus that direction. I’ve seen a lot of lives ruined by doctors pushing meds and people buying prescriptions from others, pill poppers. I’ve been around the block when it comes to this stuff and the pharmaceuticals seem way more addicting. Just my .02.

Thanks, @jlsplatts.

Certainly the agents of Big Pharma enjoy respectability and government endorsement - despite the deaths their products cause.

It’s all about that $$$

good information 👌
