We are in the era where almost everything is done on the internet. Some of us do not even cook at home anymore. We prefer to order for whatever delicacy we wish to consume. This makes us wonder how people managed to cope with activities of life before the inception of internet. But it does not stop there. The inception of Social Media has taken our time on the internet to another degree. We can no longer do without sharing everything we do on social media. And another inception attracted us in blockchain technology. But there was still something missing. Maybe something that can bridge humans’ interactions on social media to blockchain technology. And that was exactly when Steemit came in.

Steemit built a decentralized environment where people socialize on blockchain, STEEM. Everything we were doing on social media for free; without getting anything in return could now be done on blockchain and we are rewarded greatly. On Steemit, users blog about things they like, how they spend their day or specialize on a particular niche and in return, they are rewarded with STEEM native currencies (SBD and Steem) which can be exchanged for other cryptocurrencies or fiat.

Steemit.com is the first decentralized application built on STEEM blockchain and is the main platform that brings other DApps together on the system. Steemit works very well both on mobile and computer and Steemians get to enjoy using the platform. However, in 2017, another DApp, eSteem was launched and this new application brings special features that provide a better surfing experience for Steemit users.

Esteconnect users to Steemit.com and another Steemit fork called Golos and is currently ranked 9th on StateOfTheDApps and is one of the most popular DApps under media category (only second to Livepeer).

Getting Started With eSteem

eSteem app is available on android, iOS and desktop versions, each of which can be downloaded for free on eSteem website. After downloading the application, launch it to start using it.

Adding your Steemit account

Linking your Steemit blog on Esteem app is pretty easy. To sign in, you are required to supply your Steemit username, then click on Advanced button and some boxes will show up asking you to provide your Posting Private Key and Active Private key. Before now, you could easily login on Esteem using your username and password only but I have experienced that you cannot login with only that anymore.

To get your Positing and Active Private Keys, go to your Steemit account wallet on a browser. Click on Permissions, you should see the Posting and Active keys there. Under Posting key, click Show Private Key and you will notice the keys change. Copy it and paste in the required field on your Esteem app. Do the same for the Active key.

After supplying the required information, click on Continue. The SteemConnect page will show up, asking you to supply your private key again. Do the needful and click Continue.

You should see a message showing that you have successfully login to your Steemit account. You are now ready to start using your Steemit account on Esteem app.

Creating posts on Esteem app

When you open Steemit.com on your browser, the first page that you see is the Trending page. This is the same on Esteem app. However, the menu, which is situated at the left hand side on Esteem allows you to navigate to your blog, create new posts, check your draft, do coin transfers, etc.

To create a post:

Click Submit a Story and this will open a text editor where you can type in your content. Provide your post title and relevant tags in the required fields.
Click on Post to get your content live on Steemit.

Getting your posts curated when you use eSteem

The eSteem team is doing amazing work not only by giving us a DApp that provides faster and better experience on Steemit but they also curate high-quality contents posted through eSteem and submitted for curation on their Discord server. To get your posts curated, you must follow the following steps:

Ensure that your post is of high quality and publish it through the Esteem app (android, iOS or desktop version).
Join the eSteem server on discord
Provide your Steemit blog link (ie Steemit.com/@teekingtv) in the required channel.
Ensure you submit your post link on Postpromo-esteem channel on the server.
The eSteem curation team will check on your post and if it meets their standard, they will curate it.
Please have it in mind that not all posts will be curated and you can only receive their upvotes once per day (ie a post a day).

What I like About eSteem

Just like some other initiatives on Steemit, eSteem is concerned with the well-being and growth of the Steemit community in general.
It increases the accessibility of Steemit.com to users.
It provides a more interactive and faster-loading interface for Steemit.
You can choose to save your posts as Draft and come back to edit them later when you are chanced before finally publishing them.
You can choose your preferred language, currency type and server.
You can easily schedule posts and bookmark blogs and pages.

Where I Believe Esteem Needs To Improve On

I sometimes experience some troubles with adding images within my posts on eSteem. At times the image will not show up when I check the post on eSteem after publishing it but find out that they are still within the post and show when I use browser to view the post. Maybe it has to do with my device but I doubt that is the case. The team needs to check up on this issue.

Secondly, we have many other DApss and initiatives that are attracting so many contributors on Steemit these days. Some of these initiatives are Oracle-D and SteemSTEM. They have their respective websites through which their contributors submit posts to Steemit. I think Esteem needs to work on a link or something that can make these websites accessible through the eSteem app. This will increase the number of people using the eSteem app and help the community in general

In conclusion, eSsteem app is one of the most influential and effective DApps built on STEEM blockchain and I must say the team is doing a very exceptional work. I would rate this DApp 4.5/5.
