Win SBD in this Math Contest #1 - Simplify:
Welcome to my first little math contest to simplify something simple.
On the (x,y) plane, simplify: ux i = ?
Very simply problem.
This little problem is very important to understanding imaginary and complex numbers that is not usually taught to students (as far as I am aware). This will be explained more when I announce the winners.
One of the hardest things in math equations is knowing what all the symbols represent. Sometimes authors use symbols in different ways. This is necessary because of the limited number of symbols available. A symbol can have different meanings to different authors.
ux represents a unit vector, that is a vector with length (or magnitude) of 1, and the subscript x represents that the vector has a direction that is the same as the x axis. It can be on the x axis or anywhere on the (x,y) plane as long as it is parallel to the x axis. Vectors are very handy that way, they can easily represent forces at many points in space and time, i.e. a vector field.
(Unfortunately my MarkDown Computer Language skills are at a beginner level so I made the next 3 lines as a jpg.)
i2 = -1
(ux)2 = 1 = i4
RULES
Have fun with this little puzzle and even receive a little cryptocurrency.
The first to post the right answer in the comments will win at least 2 SBD.
It's ok to guess, you might get lucky.
The first to post the correct algebra of how they got the right answer will win at least 3 SBD.
This part is a bit harder to guess at, but try if you like.
All attempts to answer that are posted in the comments will win at least a part of an SBD.
The prizes can increase if the author rewards are generous.
To receive a prize, your upvote is needed & required.
Resteem is recommended, but not required.
I may or may not provide a hint or two as the days go by.
If someone posts the winning answer, I will announce that after the 7 days.
Professors and Scientists are welcome and encouraged to solve this little puzzle.
Constructive criticisms and suggestions are appreciated.
All prizes will be rewarded after the 7 days of upvoting.
I may even post this as a youtube video in 2 or 3 days to encourage youtubers to join steemit.com
Have fun with this. It is about a major breakthrough in mathematics from many years ago that is important but not widely known. Some of you might find this too easy. I hope so. Post your answer and win a few SBD.
Special thanks to @lemouth, @papapepper, @math-trail, @steemstem, and many others for encouraging science and/or contests on steemit.com

Thanks for your question, but I dun really understand it
What is your (x,y) plane referring to? The Argand plane?
If so, since on the Argand plane x-axis refers to the real part, y-axis refers to the imaginary part, ux means 1+0i. And i itself can be written as 0+1i. Multiplying these two, we have i again, so the answer is simply i.
Thanks for your answer.
The (x,y) is the real plane with a real x axis and a real y axis.

hi @point
Well, I do not really understand it, but it seems very interesting and I hope it helps those who understand it. I would really like to know what and if you can upload more posts on the subject but right from the beginning of it I'd be happy, so even if someone sees it and it helps him in life then you really did a good deed and helped anyone who wants to learn from you They also teach the other person how to earn and try to help the world be better. It really moves me every time to see it again. I wish you a lot of health, happiness and wealth and think that you are beautiful people. Keep on being like this and never stop!

ux.i = uy
That is the algebra.
i2 = -1, is interpreted geometrically as a rotation of -180 degrees.
Multiplication is interpreted as multiplying the modulus and adding the angles. Division is therefore the inverse, so i is interpreted as a rotation of -90 degrees (anticlockwise).
Hence ux.i means rotate the unit vector 90 degrees anticlockwse, which takes it to uy.

uxi = uy or -uy
treat i as an unit operator, i^2 = -1
i can be a rotation of clockwise or counterclockwise, aka uy or -uy in vector form
btw the question is very confusing
Thank you for your 2 answers.
Do you have a specific question that might clear up the confusion?

I'm impressed by the video!!
lemme try again
uxi = uxuxuy, = 1.uy = uy
your video widened my sight A LOT!
Can I think of i as a rotational axis along uz?
thx!
Thanks for your answer.
Vectors are not always based at the origin. Vectors can be at any point in space-time.
It's better to think of i as the product of ortho-normal (perpendicular unit) bases vectors to get the algebra correct. i is also an operator that performs a 90o rotation on real (and complex) vectors and multi-vectors.
I plan to explain a bit more when I announce the winners in about 3 days.

Congratulations!
another approach:
since you stated (ux)^2 = 1 = i^4
ux = i^2=-1
uxi = -i
because the question is rather confusing, I posted another approach for this

-2, I think.
Gazza.
Thank you for your answer.
Would you like to try and show your algebra for the 3 SBD prize?
If ux=1
I squared = -1
I=+2 x-1=-2
Therefore1x-2=-2
Gazza.
