Marvel Unlimited - I Am Asking For Marvel Recommendations (And Giving You Some Too)

in #marvelunlimited7 years ago (edited)

Sometime last year I bought Marvel Unlimited, Marvel's unlimited comic reading service. It's "Netflix for comic books". On Marvel Unlimited, Marvel release their new comics (and a lot of old ones too), half a year after retail. I bought it for about $5 a month, so I figured I couldn't go wrong - and I don't think I did, just haven't read nearly enough!

So before Marvel Unlimited, I mostly read DC Comics. DC however, does not yet have an "unlimited service" so I figured it was a good deal to go through some good Marvel comics. Now I am trying to keep up, but the problem is, that I keep forgetting to read, and then when I remember, that I should check out some more comics, I end up doing something else. I have a hard time just closing the rest of the internet, and focusing on reading something be it comics or novels.

Anyway, since getting the service I have been reading through a lot of Deadpool and also the Spider-Man/Deadpool crossover, which is quite fun. I've also been keeping up with All New Wolverine and a few others. I will get started on Old Man Logan soon - the Logan movie inspired me to get started, because that movie is the $#!** One of the best comic book hero movies I have ever seen!

Other than that, I have been reading a bit of Defenders, of course also inspired by the recent Netflix series.

First of all, if you haven't read the Deadpool classic Killogy starting with Deadpool Kills The Marvel Universe, then get started right away! It's a crazy, hyper-violent and over the top awesome story about how Deadpool seemingly does not like his Marvel buddies anymore - to say the least.

All New Wolverine starts a bit slow, and I am not that far into it yet. Laura/X-23 has become the new Wolverine, and must live up to the expectations the world had for Logan. She discovers that she is not the only Logan clone, and things kick off from there. I am not completely sold on it yet, but it has kept me engaged throughout, so I am definitely sticking with it. Other than that, X-23 can be quite the badass, so I expect this comic to turn out no different.

Spider-Man/Deadpool is just pure whacky fun. Deadpool plans to wipe out Peter Parker, not knowing who Spider-Man really is. Meanwhile Spider-Man gets into all the trouble (mostly because of Deadpool) and the two try to sort things out. Throughout the series, Spider-Man takes on more and more of Deadpool's careless attitude towards everything, and things get complicated and weird. They travel through not super related strange adventures, which still connects in different ways. If you love Deadpool and like Spider-Man, or the other way around, you need to read this.

From what I have tried, I would recommend Marvel Unlimited if you can find the time to read at least the price worth in comic books. I would urge you to use a tablet for reading. It works on phones too, but everything is of course very small, so you will have to zoom in. You can also read from PC, but I haven't really done that, because the PC experience have been rough. I have not tried it lately, so it might have improved.

Now my question to all Marvel fans! What comics do I need to read?

Sort:

I love Marvel Unlimited although I wish they had a better system to create subscriptions/playlists/notifications etc. I can't think of any recommendations off the top of my head, it's such a huge catalog! But I'll mull it over and appreciate your suggestions.
Just like you, I know I'm not reading enough. I also recently added ComiXology Unlimited for the independent exposure.

I hope you come up with some recommendations then :D
I haven't tried ComiXology Unlimited. Last I checked, it looked much more limited that Marvel Unlimited. That was a lot of limited... But maybe I should check up on it again.

I definitely enjoy Comixology, but it is made more for discovery. Full series are usually not available and titles can come and go like on Netflix. It's still well worth the price though, and they've begun having some exclusive titles with publishers, similar to the idea of Netflix original series.
Marvel Unlimited is awesome because they're filling more of their massive history every week and it stays! I feel like I own the whole Marvel archives with it!

Alright, I much prefer full series, but maybe it's worth checking out regardless :D

Really loved Identity Crisis! Crucial read.

The Spider-Man story? Thanks for the recommendation, I'll add it to my reading list!

heya man! I see you can't get off internet like me ha ha... don't have Marvel to suggest you other than "Diabolik" but then that's not Marvel and it's in italian :D
