Husbands have been told to love their wife. When you see a statement like this in the Bible, it shows God knows how difficult it must be for men, which is why he asked husbands to love their wife.
Men don’t like being vulnerable which is why we allow our ego to get in the way and we don’t like showing easily how much we love our spouse. The more we down the emotions, the more we lose it. Men like being in control and this is why it is a bit hard for them to show emotions so deeply; unlike the ladies that would show it from the get-go.
Men don’t like showing how deep they love because they don’t want to appear vulnerable; which is why God commanded the men to love.
As a man, I have fallen victim of this many times too as we men only try to love our spouse as we understand love. You should not love your partner as you understand love; you should love her as she understands love. Generally, you are not expected to love people as you understand love. To fully get to people, you need to learn about them and love them as these people understand love, not as you understand it.
Imagine someone speaking in French to you and repeatedly telling you he or she loves you. As much as you know the person is speaking, you don’t understand what that person is saying, or someone saying ”Mi Amor” in Spanish. You wouldn’t be able to respond because you don’t understand. The person is trying to love you in the way he understands love and as men, we should try to love women the way they understand love.
Because you speak Latin doesn’t mean you know how to speak, and because you took a vow doesn’t mean you know how to love.
