ONE: Your Spouse Has A Weakness
Your partner is not one without weakness. Only God is without weakness and you will do well when you don't focus too much on your spouse's weakness. You can get the best from your spouse when you don't make their weakness a major point in your marriage or relationship.
Every rose has its thorn so as beautiful or handsome as your partner is, their weakness only shows them as human. Don't expect perfection but they should be able to pull through in spite of it and push through.
TWO: Your Spouse Has A Past
We all have our past. Most people have done what they were not proud of and found themselves at one point or the other in a very dark place but that doesn't mean you should constantly remind your spouse of it. No one is an angel, so stop digging up the past just to hurt your spouse or make him or her lose their sense of worth. Rather let the present life your partner spend with you reduce the memory of the past. Forgive and forget. He or she can't go back to make a brand new start, but with you let him or her make a happy ending. Focus on the time he or she is having with you and help your partner get better.
THREE: Every Marriage Has Its Own Challenges
We see other people's marriage and we think they have it perfect and we start to compare. Marriage is not a bed of roses and every admirable marriage has gone through its own test and for some they are excruciating fire they have to go through to pull through. We seem to celebrate the success and ignore the process that led to it. Don't be deceived. Work on yours too but you can learn a thing or two from others.
Your love is proved in time of challenge, so keep fighting for your marriage and remember all that you learned in counselling and the vows you took. Don't expect a perfect marriage at first because even you, you are not perfect. Situations will spring up and how you handle it determines your true worth and test.
FOUR: Every Marriage You See Around Have A Different Level Of Success.
In the era where we focus on the success rather than the process, comparing marriages seem to be the order of the day as earlier mentioned. Don't compare your marriage. If you compare then you must have the same story and the same partner plus personalities and this is rare. It can never be equal. Strive to have admirable things going on for you in your relationship/marriage. Work hard on your relationship/marriage, it will help you reduce unnecessary pressure and frustrations that comes with comparison. Patience is indeed a virtue.
FIVE: You Have Declared War The Moment You Marry.
So many things threaten marriage and the moment you decide to marry, those external forces will spring up to threaten that home. Ignorance, unforgiveness, malice, ego, adultery, external influence like having a third party involvement, divorce and the likes. You will be tested more beyond your limit and remember, the last time i talked about all hidden characters we have buried deep inside springing up to the surface when you marry. Everything will want to well up inside you to act against your vows. Be careful with it. Be ready to fight for your marriage so you can enjoy the peace you desire.

Love this post because it hits on everything my partner and I have gone through in the past 5 years. Nobody ever tells you about these things when you enter into a marriage. In movies it's happily ever after and stops right there. But the fact is, marriage is hard and there are so many things that need to be worked out as it progresses. Thank you for your tips. Glad to know we are not alone.
