An Essay Outline - Is 'Blockchain Technology' Really An Advancement In Technology?
Introduction
Today's world has seen 'advancement in technology'. In broader context, this can be seen as 'evidence of innovation'. Humans have kept seeking excellence!
One recent 'innovation' in technology is 'blockchain'. Its advent occurred just more than a decade ago. 'Blockchain' is growing in popularity, now used by the likes of 'IBM, Microsoft etc' as the technology behind their databases. However, does "blockchain" equate to an 'advancement in technology' or is it a setback instead.
While it is in our nature to relish the advent of 'new innovation', it is pertinent to ascertain the value of these innovations, to maximize its use and keep 'humans' relevant in an earth filled with humans. Therefore, let's attempt to discuss the following: "Is Blockchain Technology Really An Advancement In Technology?"
Main Body
- The history of blockchain.
In this segment, focus especially on 'the reason for its advent'. Establish its core utility. Next, identify if 'preceding technologies' offered this 'core utility'. Conclude on whether 'blockchain' serves a unique purpose.
- Unique features of blockchain.
Establish the 'primary facets/features of blockchain' that is unique to it. Next, highlight the 'secondary facets/features of blockchain'. Conclude by comparing 'blockchain' to its 'counterpart technologies' (e.g traditional databases).
- Case-Study Of 'Blockchain Technology' In-Use.
In this segment, take a look at 'https://www.marlians.com', a social-network platform that makes use of 'blockchain technology' (i.e the steem blockchain) to store its data, in comparison to 'https://facebook.com', a social-network platform that uses 'traditional databases. Draw comparisons and establish. To conclude, look into reasons why Facebook is adopting 'blockchain technology' and introducing their own blockchain called Libra, in 2020.

Conclusion
'Innovation' in general doesn't always equate to 'an advancement'. This applies also to 'innovation in technology'. New technologies need to be analyzed and established as 'an advancement'.
Looking into 'blockchain technology', it is conclusive that it constitutes an 'advancement in technology'. Before the advent of blockchain, 'data' was stored using 'traditional databases', which were 'centralized' in nature. In effect, 'data' could be tampered.
'Data' is an integral part of the 'workings of any society ' (and the world at large). 'Data' thus, needs to be immutable to constitute 'valid data'.
'Blockchain technology' offers databases that are immutable, decentralized and distributed.
