This kind of flowery writing may work well for poetry but it it's counter-productive for writing good copy.

In my previous post, I gave away the secret that launched some very successful advertising careers and helped build some powerhouse ad agencies.

Advertising is Salesmanship in print.

Ordinary, friendly copy is what sells.

When you're with friends and just chatting, do your words sound like poetry?

Today's featured advertising guru is alive and well, his name is Perry Marshall.

I have no affiliation with Perry, I'm not a subscriber of his and I've never bought any of his products.

I didn't need to.

You can get a great education reading his posts and, even more importantly, Perry has a How Readable Is Your Sales Copy? tool to help you write in a simple, easy to read and understand format that works on a subconscious level.

Here's a link explaining how and why it works.

Long story short, write so a 14 year old can understand it.

And talk about your readers more than yourself (considerably more about them than you).

Here's an assignment, take a look at advertisements for personal services in your local area (lawyers, doctors, dentists, etc.) and notice who their ads talk about.

Most of them will have the me/you ratio not only upside down, but REALLY upside down.

Lets face it, if you want to sell your advertising to doctors, lawyers and dentists, you stroke their egos.

If you want to drive customers/clients to them, you need to focus on the customer.

Here's my Call to Action. You Do Know What a Call To Action Is Don't You?

No one..and I mean NO ONE...has evah accused me of writing fancy.

I write 'first person' I'm there (but my name is not brian willams..he's a fake...I'm the real deal)...using the vernacular of the guy I'm pretending to be.
can I HELP It if they all sound like texans?

So you're au natural. ;-)

only my hairdresser knows for sure.

It would be difficult to overstate the degree to which I exemplify the principle you herein espouse.

So, yeah, this post is all about me.

Sadly, I too often do talk like I write. Needless to say, I annoy the hell out of some people. No one more than I might profit from taking this post to heart, so I thank you from the bottom of my heart for it.

Samuel Clemens, aka Mark Twain, really hits this nail on the head. You're doing alright as well.

Edit: resteemed

Thanks.

I used the reading level tool to tweak a marketing letter for my wife's law practice.

We pull a 10% response in the first week after a mailing.

Converting is another matter, but it gets an amazing response.

I just write for fun it seems to work for me......

Writing can be therapeutic.
