Steemit Growth Strategy: Acquisition or Retention?

in #marketing7 years ago

Steemit is growing more and more with the number of registered used growing at a fast pace, and some people are waiting for weeks to get their accounts activated. And there will be more people registering here, with all the advertising done and will be done, there is no doubt that the number of registered user will grow double or even triple during next year this time. However, I have been thinking why the numbers of active users don’t grow up proportionally with the number of new registered account.

There are a great variety of reasons for this:

  1. Most new people are those who are total newbies, they know how to use platform like Facebook, but they don’t have much blogging experience
  2. They don’t know much about Cryptocurrency
  3. They can’t make posts with triangle A,B,C,D with a photo of the moon
  4. They copy paste a lot and think their post will work.

There are also few people whose introductory post will go trending, they are probably people who have been blogging for years, they have more than millions of YouTube, Twitter, Facebook followers/subscribers.

Therefore, I was thinking what could the possible ways for total newbies to continue with this platform without giving up? Some people like me would stick to it despite being completely new, and work hard and focus my brain in understanding the principles related to blogging, or analyzing Cryptocurrency and do trading.

However, what is the easiest way to retain members and make them easy for them to stay as a full time member.

Yes! The answer is money! Money plays a vital part here, but don’t you think a lot of money has been used to promote Steem on other platforms but not used in user retention?

The only newbies who are receiving good money are those who are in this industry for a long time with lots of experiences, or those who are close friends or family of existing whales.

There are very few people who are taking majority of the reward pool, while the others are receiving very small rewards or no reward at all. There are many tutorials made for newbies on how they can grow, but even so they either fail to make much progress or end up buying votes for their posts from voting bots only to realize after few months that the votes which they are buying from the bots are actually less in value compared with the price they are paying for those votes.

I ask this question to all the senior members here, especially to the witness, do you want more budget which you think should be used on promoting Steem/Steemit using paid advertising services or you should give 1/10th of that amount to newbies and encourage them to stay with the community and tell it to their people and make Steemit grow just by their word of mouth? And finally I will once again present this problem:

“DO WE NEED MORE DEAD REGISTERED USERS OR DO WE NEED MORE ACTIVE USERS?”

I'm only a few days old on this platform and personally, I haven't been posting a lot because I don't want to fill my account with useless photos and articles that won't likely be recognized. I am guilty of it also and I've been thinking of some ways other than creating quality posts to be noticed by the so-called "whales". In all honesty, I am irked by the politics but seeing as that's how things work here, I might as well do my best in producing good content and look into the work of others as well.

I agree with you.. and my opinion is that quality contents comes next.. the first is to seek attentions from the whales society

the retention of any user using the site is very important

@skreza how do we get the payments to the new users? Maybe a writing contest? I am planning one of these to help new authors stick with it and give Steem a try!

Ooo a writing contest..are you gonna host it? sure why not..

BTW: how do we know the future contest winner is someone who won't be your friends or relatives?
