Creating Stock & Flow Content...Using Only The Dapps On Steem!
I've spoken a few times about stock content and flow content...As a content marketer, this concept of how I 'create' everyday has been vital to my growth in business.
For those that aren't aware of the terms, basically this is how it can be viewed:
Stock Content - Is the stuff that has staying power! Your pillar content and is just as relevant in a year from now as it is today. This is your cream of the crop content! What people remember you for...
Flow Content - This is the stuff that you do every day. To remind people you exist and keep you top of mind. This content is so important because the average human is bombarded with tens of thousands of marketing messages everyday. Without flow content, you would be lost in the noise.
Both of these forms of content creation are vital to any successful content marketing strategy, and traditionally we've used the centralized platforms to do this. We would create the stock content on YouTube, or our blogs...Meanwhile staying top of mind with Twitter updates, Instagram posts and the odd political debate on Facebook ;)
I am throwing something out there for our blockchain to digest...
Can we now create and maintain successful stock and flow content...Using only STEEM based Dapps?
I spoke about this last night in our @SteemSavvy Sunday session and the answer we all came up with was....
Yes!
Here's a quick brainstorm of what we came up with...Using only Steem applications to build our stock and flow content....
Now sure, some dApps can be used for both...But I think you can see...We've got quite the healthy mix of applications here. Heck I even left out a bunch of projects that we could add to that list...
To me...This signals so much for content marketers around the world. We CAN build the content we need and distribute it using...Only the Dapps on STEEM!
How powerful is that?
The issue is...And it was mentioned by @paulag months ago in a State of Steem event...
"We have plenty of content creators, we need more content consumers."
And there is lies a problem...We're golden when it comes to the ability to create on amazing applications. Now we just need the people to start consuming it and engaging with each other more.
I believe that has just as much to do with the price of Steem as it does with onboarding new users. When Steem goes to a dollar or higher, it'll get more attention....And with the changes since Hardfork 20, it's a lot easier to help get new Steemians on the blockchain. Heck @Steem.Ninja lets us onboard people in 4 seconds flat LOL
So I believe the consumers are coming...And when they do...Watch out!
But getting back to the point of this article...It shows me that we can create all the content we need to build healthy personal brands and businesses...And it's only going to get better.
Do we still need Twitter, Facebook and Instagram?
I haven't stopped using them because they are great tools to spread the word about Steem. That's where the majority of future Steemians reside, so I'll be knocking on doors for the foreseeable future ;)
The more people that become aware of the potential, the communities and the applications native to this blockchain, they will be fascinated with what we already know...
There is no better blockchain to build upon!
Whether that be a business or your personal content marketing strategy :)

I love these concepts - stock and flow, and I'm left wondering why I've never come across them before!
I also love what you've done with the different steem dapps - basically something like this (Steempeak) for long form 'quality' posts which no one ever reads and then all those other apps for yer 'shit posts' which get the engagement.
It ties in nicely from some posts by the like of @coruscate and @abh12345 about whey their shit posts get more engagement - maybe this will help them rethink them - flow posts sounds so much better!
NB this is also going to change the way I think about producing content not only here but also on my main blog!
It's a very powerful concept pair - stock and flow.
How have I avoided it for so long?

If we take the list above, I get way more engagement on my 'Stock' than my 'Flow'.
If you add Utopian-io to 'stock', then this engagement average would fall a lot. And, I do right the Flow posts via Busy.org for the most part.

yeah it helped me a ton when i asked myself...how much is too much content.
when you split them into either stock or flow..then you can see what fits and how.
i think the future is very bright for the so called ‘poop posts’ lol. because when done strategically they can help ones personal brand tremendously

I think 'flow posts' are much better.
I actually quite enjoy seeing people's 'daily life posts' if I know them, which is quite a few people on here now!
I tend to bung them a small upvote if they are flow posts, as others do on mine - however I do feel slightly uncomfortable about this when I remember how much I hated seing people getting large payouts for such posts when I was new to steem.
So I do most of my 'flow posts' on an al account and limit them on here - I allow myself a Thursday personal update 'flow' post, maybe one more a week sometimez.
Anyway I am totally using this as a distraction. I have some assignments to mark - must get to that!

My 'life' updates, i think are classed as Flow content? But i use Busy.org for the most part for those.
The Flow apps I use are actifit (on an alt) and the games - those receive less engagement generally. I'll have to think more about this, although subconsciously I do try to mix my content and get weary when I see too many pie charts in my own feed! :D

Yeah I'm still wondering what's best. I got my followers without actifit updates... hmm.

Great post @jongolson, and thanks for laying out the concept of Stock and Flow content, it makes sense, and I would like to add a dApp to this called @engrave, with it you can have your own .com on Steem plus SEO, eliminating all need for an additional WordPress blog for anyone who does not already have one before.

Currently, 'flow posts' are very often "recognized" as s**tposts and sometimes even flagged as SPAM posts, which is not a good practice... I mean, it is nice to see useful post that will be valuable few months after publishing, but they can't be all like that...
And, mass adoption brings a large amount of new users from other platforms (I hope :) ) to Steem and those users want place where can post their images of cats, meal, friends, etc.. If we flag those users, they will leave our platform and never come back...

yeah. and that’s because i think steem’s first app was steemit. and that was meant for blogging.
and writers have pride behind their work. and critique others as well. not everyone is a ‘writer’ but almost everyone is a content creator in one form or another.

I never heard of those vine it’s before but I do get it. Great way to break it down. Indeed we have all the apps we need to create the various types of content. It can be easy to just stay on steem with all this greatness. But we got let’s get the word as you said!

This explains quite a lot actually. Thank you for posting this. I know I need to be doing more content more often. I just haven't had the time.
glad you liked it. i think that’s the benefit of using apps for flow content. it doesn’t have to be some pillar content. just using partiko or appics can do the trick :)
