Marketing steem, steemit, and busy.org

I wrote something in the Andrarchists channel on steemit.chat. No one has responded yet, but it was inspired by @andrarchy indicating he thought the people on that channel should use that to brainstorm and crowd source ideas for marketing steemit.

I had a message that @andrarchy wanted to talk to me so that is how I ended up there, but I haven't had a chance to speak with him yet.

I am going to post the text I put into steemit.chat here. It is in the format of me simply typing lines into a chat, so it is not necessarily written in the most pleasant of ways. I thought it was worth sharing these ideas with everyone.

From the Chat

I have some ideas for video(s)... yes plural
I've been thinking we should make videos that focus on one aspect of steem blockchain/steemit/busy.org rather than trying to make videos that tell everything at once.
I'd love to see a video that shows some guy walking and building a rig for mining other popular crypto and jumping through hoops, spending money, paying electricity, etc... and saying "I am mining crypto"
then have a lady or some normal person walk by and sit down and start browsing steemit, voting a bit and then writing a blog. The person walks back in that had the expensive rig... "What are you doing?" Answer: "I'm mining steem".
"What do you mean you're mining steem?"
"Well you get steem by using the platform, voting, blogging, commenting, and replying?"
"That doesn't look like an expensive rig for mining... how does it work?"
"I could be doing this on a phone. All it requires is a web browser."
That's an example of one ATTRACTIVE idea that I think people could make some pretty awesome videos for
you don't have to use what I put there... I only share it as an example of what I've been thinking of...
Now let's switch to another idea....
We know there is a lot of active censorship going on. We should really talk about how censorship is not truly an issue here. We shouldn't talk about making money, or other aspects... just a video focused on the idea of censorship resistance...
One idea per video
different paths to lead people to steemit
We could spin this more though and go off of a knowledge repository type of avenue. Tapping into the legacy, and preservation of knowledge and ideas. Tap into the Library of Alexandria and other past great losses of knowledge... point out how people can have their works purged from the internet today... and their legacy gone. This could be due to censorship or just the place they have their data stored going out of business or changing their business model...
Steemit can help with that as well

An important thing... we need a welcome video to properly introduce people to the potential of flagging and try to diffuse the negative impressions and personal attack feel that can have. While it is not an achieveable goal our goal should still be 100% retention... once people have visited steemit we want them to come back, how often is not an issue, but making this a place they want to return should be important.

Steemit is not as WOW and impressive as minds.com in terms of visual presentation. We could perhaps indicate we are a work in process and that steemit is but one view into the steem blockchain....

We should have a video discussing some of the untapped potential of the steem blockchain as well....

That's essentially what I've been thinking about for a few weeks now.... you should at least have a good introduction to my direction of thought... I mainly provide it as inspiration... do what you will, take these, toss them, use them, evolve them, etc...

could also have a quick video showing avenues for turning steem, and sbd into real money, and actually buying things with credit cards... the video should be a teaser... not detailed instructions... if they are interested enough to check out steemit then we can hit them with instructional information...
but there are many ways to actually spend steem, and buy real things. Books, and pretty much anything. I personally use a bitpay visa card and charge it up with what I need at the time. There are other means and we should not go into detail on HOW it is done, but rather have a video showing people buying things with steem.
My mental marketing label for this plan is "bite sized marketing"

Steem On!

My average Joe proposal:
Somehow bring steem to 10 bucks( Steemit inc. can do it for sure if they want)
On ones birthday or any party tell everyone that you can upvote his or her every post or comment on steemit with 3 $. In a week time we'll have millions of people on board. People are smart and greedy and when money is in question they get even smarter. They will come regardless of 16 step sign up. Believe me. The rest will come on a way.

I tend to agree that a significant price rise would solve a lot of problems all at once. I am just not sure what is the best way to go about creating that price rise and then keeping it close to whatever level it rises to so it isn't just a pump and dump... ya know?

Egg and chicken? I'm not sure which one was first.

Bingo... me either. A magical price rise would bring in a ton of new users though... that was the main reason we had so many new users back in June. People saw thousand dollar payouts and couldn't sign up fast enough...

If guy in Venezuela get 10 bucks for post? You know how big families are down there?
No need for fancy marketing. That's my point. Do you think guys in Aceh care about Andrarchy? Common !

Yeah, that requires bringing steem to 10 bucks. I don't have any ability to do that. So I am focusing on things I might actually be able to help with or do.

I also want people to stay. I don't want to lure them in for the big pay day... that doesn't last. We had the big pay day back in July and a lot of people were joining from everywhere, but it was unstainable and as the payments dropped most of those people left. So many of them were here for an easy buck. It was obvious. We'd have a makeup tutorial do well then you'd have 50 people the next day sign up to steemit all doing makeup tutorials.

That will not sustain steemit or steem. We need to get them here and want them to stay here.

One thing to realize is these payments while low are actually not too bad when compared to a lot of crypto mining, with the added benefit that anyone can mine the steemit way.

I understand you point, but don't forget: We, who hanging around for almost a year are dreamers and enthusiasts. Everybody are making fools out of us. My family and friends think something went wrong with me. I can't even think about to talk about steemit. They just run away from me. One of my close relatives is computer manager and when I mentioned bitcoin? Never heard about it. Another one is social media specialist. Never heard about steemit.

Great ideas man! I would love to have a couple of videos to show people who I want to get to join. I would send links to the videos to my brothers and my buddies.

Me too... making videos is not my strong suit. I could do it, but it'd take a lot of work on my part to get anything halfway useable because of my lack of experience. I've made some and they took me quite some time and were not something to write home about. :)

sure
cool with me.
not sure if the flag stuff belongs or is too off topic
dwinblood 5:37 PM
it belongs... as part of prong two
retaining people once they get here
and sorry was off adding that as a reply to you.... and it looked pretty bad with copy and paste so I ran through it and did some basic formatting....
and @jrcornel - I was so busy chatting with @hanshotfirst I missed your comment until I was editing that reply and saw it... sorry to kind of just talk over the top of you... chalk it up to passion. It was not intentional
jrcornel 5:44 PM
Haha no worries, I just let you guys do your thing ??
hanshotfirst 5:45 PM
lol
I got all excited!

another tutorial idea or intro orientation idea
"come here and be you. Write about the things you like, and engage in the things you like. If you see a particular post doing well don't make the common mistake of rushing out to try to post on the same topic in the hopes of making more. Build your following and your payounts will improve. Even better you'll be writing about things that actually interest you. Don't try to be someone you are not. It seems that steemit works better for people who are genuinely themselves."
hanshotfirst 5:50 PM
Exactly
dwinblood 5:51 PM
Another selling point.... OTHER competitors keep getting more marketing mention than us... yet none of them actually work yet
steem has been going for over a year
it is not vaporware

I was reading @timcliff post about liquidity and it did give me an idea for another video.

Steem is very different from traditional crypto in that it has steem, steem power, and steem backed dollar. There is a concern that steem power is not liquid enough.

Yet this does miss one thing and I only realized it in responding to Tim.

A traditional crypto investor would be purchasing steem. As long as they don't then power up that steem then the steem they have has instantaneous liquidity like any other crypto.

Steem Power is the long term investment that comes with other benefits that are not elsewhere. If a person chooses to power up then they are forefeiting the instant and quick liquidity. That doesn't mean this instant liquidity is not available. It is, as long as you don't power it up.

So the fact that steem is not liquid is actually a myth. It is just as liquid as any other currency until you opt to convert it to steem power which is more like purchasing a CD or other longer term investment.

This could be cleared up with a decent video presentation as well.

Absolutely. We have to remember we are trying to bring in regular people. They will need that info.

    Its really that simple.

Hehe. :) Ideally yes. Not a bad slogan.

Ha. I remember when I was added to that channel. Didn't even have a chance to say hello before others in there threw a fit and kicked me out.

Oh, well. Good luck to them. I'm sure they'll come up with amazing ideas.

I don't expect it to stay in that channel. If one of them says something they say is confidential I will respect that. I'll not share other people's confidential information.

For something like this I don't consider any of my ideas confidential as I'd hope the entire community would get involved and participate. Yet I do know why they focus it. Too many cooks can indeed be a problem.

This is the first time I've spoken in there for some time, because I was tagged. It also seems different than it once was... it's being repurposed. I could try to persuade them to invite you for this if you'd like me to try.

I'm not too concerned about it. I just found the whole thing humorous. A good bunch of people, they are.
