I like to start the post off right.

I would like to take a moment to shoutout to an exceptionally creative artist, who is constantly wowing me with her work. Isabel @nolasco lives in East Timor (by way of Portugal) She has a sweet and gentle demeanor and I adore having conversations with her. She is interesting, intelligent and a world traveler. She blends and mixes the different cultures in her work, making them always over-the-top amazing! I encourage you to look her up and look over her work. I promise you won't be disappointed. I am sending you because so many good artists get overlooked and stay underappreciated and disappear from the landscape of steemit. She is exceptional and I believe deserves a little love. This week, I went to the Mother Earth News Fair in Maryland. I had gone to the one in Seven Springs, Pennsylvania (due North of Pittsburg) in September, and it was pretty amazing. So, I was excited to have this one right out my back door. Or across the beltway. Whatever.

Wristbands up as we go by the entrance. Hello homesteaders!

Whether you want to learn new skills, seek out some answers regarding homesteading or learn how to raise your own food... this is the place for you.

You will have to excuse me, but who rents a chicken? I asked the question because I couldn't believe anyone would rent a chicken. Well, they do. Business was brisk. For those that have trouble committing or not knowing if that is their cup of tea, renting is the answer.

Rent a chicken will drop off two egg-laying hens, 100 pounds of feed and a portable coop. Boom. You are in business. When you are finished, they will come retrieve them. It doesn't get much easier than that!

Goats can be a valuable member of the sustainable agriculture team. They can be used to control weeds and the overgrown brush. Many homesteaders warn that you must be careful not to overgraze them.

Miniature Horses (or donkeys) for the small/hobby farm. They have an unbelievable amount of strength for their small size.

There is great importance attached to sustainable farming nowadays. Alpacas (and llamas) are the perfect grazer in so many ways. They don't have hooves but have padded feet and so they don't tear up the fields which, in turn, makes for faster regrowth.

They are referred to as regenerative agriculture, meaning they give more than they receive. You can even use their manure straight on the garden, without the need for composting.

Homesteading is a lifestyle of self-sufficiency. It is characterized by subsistence agriculture, home preservation of food, and may also involve the small-scale production of textiles, clothing, and craftwork for household use or sale.
