Market Friday goes to a coffee shop and roastery with 👉🏾 @c0ff33a ☕️ 👈🏽

in #marketfriday7 years ago (edited)

This is my contribution post to #MarketFriday initiated by @dswigle (👈🏽 That's her, Denise) and posted by me @c0ff33a (👈🏽 That's me ☕️) and this week I am one day early - which is getting closer. So far I have done, Saturday, Wednesday and now Thursday. Let's face it I have a 1 in 7 chance of getting the right day!

IMG_1881.JPG

Today I am visiting a very little coffee shop and coffee roastery called The Loom Lounge, local to me in Halifax, UK. They sell coffee and tea, but specialise in selling the coffee beans they roast inside the shops themselves.

IMG_1876.JPG

I like the reclaimed wood decor, and the shop has plenty of coffee related Nic nacs to make it feel cosy

IMG_1878.JPG

The varied old school coffee grinders are amazing, in such a variety of designs and styles as well.

IMG_1877.JPG

Plenty of coffee related goods to buy, including the awesome Hairo V60 drip brewer.

IMG_1879.JPG

Now that is what I call a grinder, whose van is that parked outside I wonder 🤔

IMG_1880.JPG

A closer view let's us admire this coffee grinder, coffee beans can be quite hard to grind, especially in bulk - wheel to the left helps make turning the handle easier - there is a special term for this system but I forget - maybe someone knowledgeable can let me know in the comments.

IMG_1882.JPG

To give the shop that traditional feel the displays are embellished with traditional packaging from long ago, some of the brands you will still recognise today.

IMG_1883.JPG

So much to see and enjoy in this very little shop, as we go down this corridor we will eventually find the coffee roaster.

IMG_1884.JPG

And there he is, sat at the end of this passage - the roaster that turns the green coffee brown and ready to drink. If this shops seems to be lacking customers, it is for good reason - I am here to do repairs on the roaster and the owners left me to it while they took care of their much bigger coffee shop nearby.

IMG_1868.JPG

I'm here to replace this inspection lamp, when we roast coffee we do it partly by colour of the bean - for each coffee we roast the aim is to reach the same colour level of the bean. This lamp ensures the light we view the coffee using the sampling device that can pull the beans from inside the roaster to look at - is always the same. It helps us gain greater consistency in coffee roasting. Unfortunately two weeks ago my customer moved the lamp using the flexible arm to a different position - it is designed to do that but this time when he moved it there was a bang 💥 and all the power went off in the shop. The wires powering the lamp must have shorted inside - a manufacturing fault maybe. I quickly came down and disconnected the power cables for the lamp so he could still use the roaster, and ordered a replacement lamp from the Turkish manufacturer. Now I am here to fit that replacement.

IMG_1872.JPG

Removing the old lamp requires disconnecting the power cable and pulling it back through it's guiding sheath. 4 Bolts mount it in place on the curved drum, removing them is easy, re-threading them into the holes they came from when the new lamp base is fitted not so much.

IMG_1869.JPG

The orange power cable needs threading into the black tube with the silver temperature probe cable - not easy as the tube is only just wide enough to fit them both in.

IMG_1870.JPG

Then I need to thread the power cable into the control fuse box, and wire it into the correct points in the fuse system. I remember a handy guide an electrician once told me - red to red, brown to brown, blue to bits 💥

IMG_1873.JPG

The Turkish Manufacturers have done me no favours with this job, the lamp was frustrating to to screw back onto the body because of the curved design of the drum - no matter how many times I tried one bolt always never hit it's thread hole. Fitting the power cable down the guide tube that carries it around the edge of the drum was painfully slow and frustrating. Now in the fuse box - the cables connect at the very bottom of the fuse cluster, it's dark and hard to see where you connect them, the front control panel is tethered to the machine and get's in the way. It's a good job this shop was empty, because the wires are not the only thing being blue at this point. 😡

IMG_1875.JPG

After many choice words were uttered, I make the correct connections, tidy the cables and refit the control panel with it's 12 retaining bolts. Power it up and success - we have light and hopefully this new lamp will be more reliable. I hope you all enjoyed my little Market Friday journey, maybe next time I will take you around his big coffee shop instead!

But wait, there is more, it's Thursday and isn't that #haturday instigated by the lovely @saffisara ?

IMG_1892.JPG

I almost forgot I had this hat, but last week for his #haturday @enginewitty reminded me of it when he had on something similar. And it's a rollover, I can even sneak in a #treetuesday by @old-guy-photos - ok it's not Tuesday but Paul always says to me the rules of these tags....they are just guidelines.

Today though I also bring great news for you my followers, supporters and friends. Because my greatest inspiration on Steemit, a member so dedicated to the growth of this platform and indeed all of you - that he delegated many users like myself with Steem Power so we could upvote you with greater value to help you grow. @fulltimegeek outlined in this recent post Steem Quest 1 that he is now out to banquish from this platform we love the trolls that would drain it's reward pool and take away what you deserve in rewards for your hard created posts. To do this he has pulled back his mighty Steem Power from all the #stewardsofgondor he bestowed it upon to give himself the strength to fight this battle. I have been preparing for this for a long time, investing my earnings in delegated Steem Power to keep my upvote power high, but for the next few days to bring it to full ability I must recharge from the 40% upvote I have been level on since last November to 100%. To do this I must reduce my upvote of you my friends to tiny percentages to allow the re-charge. This will benefit us in the long term, when I return to 100% I will have the same upvote valve as I did before that Steem Power delegation was revoked. But also I wish you to remember the upvote I was able to support you all with, the extra value your posts received when I upvoted - is all thanks to the great man @fulltimegeek and I ask you now to follow and support this fine Bastian of Steemit, if he posts do your best to upvote and resteem him - if you believe in this platform, in receiving just rewards for the work you put into your posts this man will redress the balance and oust those that would line their own pockets at the cost of others. Anything we can do to support him will help, this is a battle if giants and it may be he can not alone win - we are all tiny around him but together we are many - a group of like minded people who wish to just post our blogs and get our rewards for the effort. Join with me, support @fulltimegeek in his battle and be prepared to do whatever you can to make this place better for all of us.

Spread the message my friends, far and wide on every discord and group you mix in. Follow and support @fulltimegeek he is our saviour in our greatest hour of need. Stand united and support the many charitable accounts like @youarehope and indeed the goods works of my friend @crisangel whose incredible work with school children post giving them hope and much needed educational supplies was downvoted for no good reason.

United we will overcome, I believe in all of you - now is the time for you to show what you stand for.

Great post. Excellent writing skills. I like how you worked in the pics and gifs so that text wraps around them...I will have to learn how to do that.

Cool coffee roaster...being an engineer I can appreciate how complex and awesome technology has come, for almost everything. I never knew beans were roasted to a point that a machine could tell their color and stop the roasting. What would we do without computers?

Also great tips on Steem and SP in general. I’m newer here so still learning and will check out some of the links you provided.

Thanks again, cheers!

Thank you very much for taking a look through my post and leaving a comment.

this is really wonderful such a great mixture between the classic, traditional in one shot looks gorgeous.

Thank you, it is a very nice little shop - I think the owner has done well decorating it.

What a cute and quaint shop! Are all those technical issues what you meant about your day being complicated? BTW, this post inspired me to brew some coffee myself! :)

Thank you for calling in on me, it is a lovely little shop and something a little. It's been a complicated week to be honest, but that's life isn't it!

Awesome post! I work in computers and I can't tell you how much I appreciate the companies that make removing parts and reassembling things easy, and the curses I put on those that do not.

Also oh man this Haejin fight about to get real. I am ready.

Some of the parts that need replacing are in some awkward positions - and the panels you need to remove revited into position to make it even harder. I still don't know what will happen, or how it will kick off but all we can do is watch and wait right now. It's about time someone with clout stood up for the platform. Thanks for calling in, much appreciated.

Started smiling from the first words you wrote...because, it's Thursday and you've confused me about the days again. So cool to get a look into your world and see a day-in-the-life. That coffee shop looks really cool. A nice place to get that rustic feel while enjoying a tasty cup of goodness. Sorry to hear that it was such a pain to get the cover back on. It probably looked really cool in CAD...

Good to know what's going on with you and your SP. Glad to see that people are fighting back against the BS pool raping that keeps on going on. You always do a great job in acting as a steward of a good community :) I'm sure lots of people tell you that, but I'm sure it's always nice to hear it again, hehe. And at 40% for how long? Dang... We'll see you when you're able to do what we know you love to do :) Let me know if I can help in any way, small as it may be, hehe.

Thank you very much, I really like all those old fashioned and historic pieces he has filled the shop with - very clever and it gives it a really warm feel. Would you believe this is a new updated design for the roaster, the previous version had a door - hinged door - you could open to access the fuse box. Now instead to reset a fuse or do any work - remove 12 bolts and then have a tethered switch panel dangling about in the way while you try and work on it - and that's progress! More like saving a few quid on a hinge and lock mechanism. The sad thing is - if I had recharged to 100% long ago my upvote would have been really massive - but I'm a sucker even today I'm still upvoting people! I've only managed to get just over 50% so far - and this rate it's going to take a week to get to 100%

Lol, engineers trying to make your life easier, right? Yeah, saw that the other night that you're still voting and I was like...relax and recharge for a minute! hehe. Was nice to see you still making the rounds though :)

How lovely this coffee shop is! I like everything I see in here but what caught my eye is the manual coffee grinder! Wow, looks like so antique!
I like the way the mugs, cups, tins and thermos are displayed in the store, they made it look even warmer. It is a small store but so much content in it, plus of course not leaving behind the roaster, witch is an essential machine in all coffee shops. I have to say the owner shop is lucky to have you fixed!!
Thank you @c0ff33a for this great #marketfriday, #haturday and #treetuesday!!!

Thank you very much, yes it is such a lovely small store - I'm not sure my pictures did it justice but I tried my best. Thanks for always dropping in on my posts, I've been a bit slack creating them this week - too busy upvoting and commenting on other people's work!

I'm so glad you found somewhere you belong 😉
And it's always a pleasure to see that Shneider Electric mark I don't care if the manufacturer is turkish, if it has Shneider contactors then it's German 😅

Thank you so much, you are right I fit in just nicely with all the other ancient artefacts - they should have me on the shelf as part of the display 🤣 At least the Turkish manufacturers use quality parts for their contractors. Germany has it's own Roaster manufacturer Probat - they are popular roaster but 3 x more expensive then the Turkish version. Thanks for dropping in on my post.

lol dont make me ask you about your age 😅

Coffee! Coffee! Coffee! Now I am looking forward to get the coffee beans my friend will bring for me from Philippines.

More than a coffee shop and roastery, this place looks like a museum to me. Cool and amusing displays :D

Thank you, yes it is just like an museum with so many historic coffee grinders and signs. I got some coffee in from Thailand this week, I'm looking forward to roasting that. Enjoy the coffee beans your friend brings you and thanks for dropping by on my blog.

It must be Friday somewhere! Loved the quaint coffee shop. Ive got to get the hang of wrap around text. It looks so professional. A lot of interesting Info in your post.

Thank you very much for calling in and leaving a comment, it's a lovely little shop he has fitted out, although the main purpose is to roast coffee for his bigger coffee shop he has at the other side of the mill.

Why did I just expect you to visit a coffee shop! LOL! You have me craving coffee, but it's too late to drink it! Great documentary shots and ideal for Market Friday! Not sure if I'll get mine up, and I'm going out of town for the weekend. I actually did a little shoot for it today!

Yes, thank you I am of course one of the strange people who only ever visits coffee shops to deliver things or fix their equipment! Never a dull moment though, I'd already done two deliveries before I got to this one - and I brought him 3 sacks of coffee while delivering - 2 at 60kg each and one at 70kg each because the Colombians like to be different! Thanks for calling in, I have made a mental note that I am behind on your work and need to catch up.

But you give us a unique perspective on the coffee shop business, and that’s cool! Thanks for that!
