3D Televisions Being Phased Out Of Market

in #market7 years ago

3D television sets have accounted for a continually diminishing share of TV sales every year and it looks like a few more big players are getting out of the market for good.

Samsung and Panasonic have already indicated that they aren't going to be producing 3D televisions anymore, and now LG and Sony say that they too are going to be following in the same direction. But this doesn't mean that you still cannot get your hands on a 3D television for some time yet, as there are still a number of unsold sets on the market. Also, other low profile manufacturers are going to be looking to meet that need in the market and take over from where the big corporations have left off.

It was James Cameron's Avatar film back in 2009 that really first sparked the 3D interest in films, shortly after that it seemed like every movie that was coming to theaters was being released in a regular and a 3D version. We even saw older movies being reformatted and re-released (like Titanic) just so that movie-goers could see their favorite classic films in 3D.

And although 3D is still a popular content variety at the theater, the trend has further decayed when it comes to at-home entertainment television options. We can expect to see the 3D Blu-ray releases also decline in the years to come.

The 4K television sets are where most consumers are eyeing their interest these days. And the price for those sets continues to get even cheaper. These television sets are more popular than ever and it's safe to assume that they'll be the ones grabbing the biggest market share in years to come. The 4K television is becoming the new standard for at-home entertainment.

Consumers want more control over their content these days and the 4K television gives them that by offering them a chance to stream online content, so that they can pretty much watch almost anything that they want, at any time that they want. And as the price continues to come down, it's expected that more people will venture out into trying these sets and opting for something new over their traditional model at home.

But one thing is for sure, the future doesn't look as bright for the 3D television sets. Unless some low profile manufacture comes along and re-inspires some interest in the trend. It's likely that this one is on its way out for good.

I'm not the biggest fan of 3D, even in movie theaters. It doesn't add much for me and sometimes the vision just gets blurry. This is one of the reasons I never really saw the use in getting a 3D tv either.

Not a loss to me, this!

3D never inspired me either, not at home at least. I think good content and 3D recordings are missing. Maybe even my brains are not 'seeing' the 3D movies correct. When watching Ice Age 4 3D in an Imax theater, I really had the impression I was watching a lot of 2D screens in front of eachother, rather than a good 3D film. I do not have that much experience with other 3D content, so I can not generalise. But for me, it didn't play out good for the 3D equipment and content industry.

I must say I'm quite the fan of 3D TV, just because it can add an amazing depht to sport events etc. But of course that unfortunately doesn't give me the money to buy one...

The movie theaters however, I think don't utilize 3D all that well. The effects in movies tend to be too exhagerated and also the theater is not an ideal situation for the current technology imo.

I don't like it either, it was just a gimmick. I'm okay with it being phased out.

The truth was not a very successful system, thank you dear friend @doitvoluntarily for disseminating the information

Yep, Avatar was perhaps the only movie I watched at home in 3D )))
