MakeMeSmile Week 3#: Chocolate milk making as enquiry-based learning

in #makemesmile6 years ago (edited)

My boy made his first ever 'kids' coffee' (it was chocolate milk. He says kids can't drink coffee, chocolate milk is kids coffee) for us today!

Hey presto! Your 'coffee' is right here. Please enjoy!

Why that has made me happy?

  1. He used that 'coffee' making as a way to continue his enquiry-based learning. We discussed what ingredients needed for the 'coffee', and worked out how much of them needed for each mug;

  2. He directed the 'coffee' making sequencing on his own and explained the flow to us. We were just watching;

  3. He was so thoughtful. He asked me if we needed it iced, lukewarm or hot when he was making the 'coffee';

  4. He had a hefty sense of achievement and felt proud of himself. He has become more confident about designing his own directed learning;

  5. He has had a better idea of respect for food, farmers, and professions. We make or order food with the just right portion we need. And he said people working at fast food shops are awesome.

Wow you are a very lucky parent! Not many kids are as assertive and pro active. This would easily put a smile on a lot of other people's faces! :) Nice one!

I must say thank you to his teachers. They are fabulous shaping each kid as active learners with a mind to explore and care about people.

Really cool how you are doing that with your child :D Keep up the good work @prch. Always following :) Any news on your entry for the alliance?

Hey, giving you an update on that. I made it through the initial application, but layers of approval are behind that. The group are serious about their positioning on steemit and I feel that they aspire to do it positively with an ambition. Hats off to them and many thumbs up.

I am wishing them luck and success. But I am looking for something else. You may give it a try.

Ah I see. Maybe I will leave it for the moment and see if there is something else out there for me :) Thanks for the update

You must be very proud of your boy... That coffee looks irresisitible!! :p

Thank you. I would tell my boy Ms Beauty Ackhoo gave him the nod. :-)

ha ha kids coffee I love it and the same time it's totally the right way to go with teaching them. I am entirely in agreement kids coffee is way better than grown up coffee. I often have kids coffee on a night warm while im watching a documentary about something. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, I hope you liked the 'coffee'. :-)

@prch, I always love and enjoy seeing different parenting, and that adds something new for me today.

Thank you, Jack. I also love reading stories and whatever sharing from peer parents. Hope I will learn lots from you.

@prch, definitely. With peer sharing, at least we get to grow faster and understand if we had made any mistake in the path of parenting. Sometimes we just don't realize it.
